Just wondering what tranny and water temps you get to when towing? My 10 Silverado is going on its forst long tow this weekend. Highest tranny I've had was 195 so far. Whats to hot? Noticed my water climbed a bit then too.

Haven't had my coolant temp budge no matter what I throw at the truck. I think I saw the trans see 207 in stop and go traffic towing a trailer once. Other than that, it didn't even hit 200 hammering it on the dunes. I think 250 or so is when you gotta worry about trans fluid with these trucks. Synthetic is supposed to tolerate the heat a bit better and that's what Dextron VI is.

Typical is ~ 100F over ambient when towing, but you can get way above that on steep, long climbs in high temps. The truck will go into limp mode before you can hurt anything, which is near 265F iirc. As Mike said... Dex VI isn't going to fail easily. I've towed some long grades w/ a 7000 lb camper (loaded weight) and the highest temp was near 230F. You would never know it from the fluid. Looks/smells new @ 42k miles, and ~1/4 of those have been towing the camper.

I've hit 128C when I didint have my cooler. Put a factory cooler on, now it doesn't go above 75C

The highest transmission temperature that I have seen in my 2010 is 207... air temp was 93. Seems like the 6-speed runds 10-15 degrees hotter than the previous 4-speed (in my '07 GMT 900).

When I tow my ~9,200 pound boat up hills in hot weather I've seen 217 for the trans and around 225 ish for the engine.

I've got a 2010 Yukon XL 2500 4x4 with the 6L and 6L90.
