GM's Answer to the Ford Raptor?

Recommended Posts

So I love my GMC. However it seems a lot of us like modifying our trucks in ways that would make them more off road capable..bigger stance...heftier suspension..more power..etc. Fords answer to this was the F-150 Raptor. Now my question is, if GM produced a vehicle that would compete with or surpass its performance at a similar price point, how many of you would be interested? I know that Ford Racing had a big play in the production of the Raptor and what not, and I'm not particularly a Ford fan in the least...but I do think the Raptor is an awfully sweet stock full-size truck that is very off road capable right off the lot. I didn't see any topics such as this so I apologize if this is a repost of sort. So lets hear it, what do you think? :lurk:

the raptor is for rich kids who think they're cool. I can build a baja capable truck for 10k less than what it costs to buy a raptor.

oh and this....so much for the raptor being "baja ready" lol

That's certainly your opinion. And to be honest..maybe GM could do the same. I don't read any Ford forums so thanks for that link. In your baja build, what would you do in order to combat that from happening?

OH!

And to clarify, I'm referring more to the fact that GM's only would be answer is the "Z71 Off Road" package and it's mediocre upgrades are mostly appearance related at best. I know, I own one.

I'd take it... I've owned 5 GM trucks since the 80s, and I am not a Ford fan, but if GM doesn't get off their backside and start making their trucks more than pavement princesses the Raptor will be my next rig come 2015.

I didn't get one in 2010 because the Crew Cab had not come out yet and I needed 4 doors, and wasn't in a position to wait about 6 months for it, so I bought an Avalanche, which has been a good truck for me, but if GM doesn't come up with something comparable I'll have a Ford in my driveway in a few years.

And GM, listen up, by comparable I mean exactly that, not slap on some badges, wheels, and fancy gizmo gadgets and call it comparable.. I want a rig that can take a beating and still look good driving me to work, or the family to dinner.. Not some duded up pavement princess cowboy caddy that is afraid of a little mud and dirt, like this guy:

LMAO! Love that scene.

As to the link...oops glad to have my GMC. My Z71 may be for show to some but its been perfect for me, on & off the road.

Not much to compete with....different body style (looks better than the rest of the Ford line up IMO) 6,2L with a towing capacity of 6,000lbs max. and 920lbs of payload, pretty sad for a truck. Fancy FOX shocks and bigger tires, No big deal really.

I would rather buy a Dodge and purchase the pre-runner kit. For that matter, get yourself a GM 6.2L and make some suspension changes.

If a true off road vehicle is what you want, build one because that production Raptor will not hold up. Been off roading since my teens and that thing is nothing special and had absolutely has nothing that would make me want to buy one.

Is the Raptor even a big sales hit for Ford? I've seen a total of 3 ever on the road. I will say that the raptor look is an improvement on the f150.

This has been thought of by gm and discussed since 2011

GM, please don't produce this ugly truck. The front is horrible.

There are a ton of raptors on the road in NE Arkansas. I have two friends (twins, actually) that have matching raptors they use in their construction business. They are some of the hardest guys I know on trucks and they have been very pleased with their trucks.
