Power Mirror Swap - Power Folding to Power Extending Tow Mirrors

Recommended Posts

Got a 2006 Suburban 2500 LT that came with power folding, heated, blinker, self dimming mirrors and swapped to a set of OEM power extending tow mirrors with blinkers (not sure about the dimming & heat). They will extend by pushing the rocker switch to the left side but they will not retract by pushing on the right side of the button (Left/Right rocker switch in the middle position). Is there anything that needs to be done so the ECM or equivelant will recognize that the mirrors have ben changed?

Both mirrors are fully adjustable independently so I feel as though the switch should be fine. When you place the left/right rocker switch in the middle, to enable extend/contract the mirrors, again pushing the left side extends the mirrors as they should but pushing the right side of the button the glass will turn down but the complete mirror assembly will not contract back in towards the door. I didn't think the ECM would really have anything to do with this but it seems like the truck just doesn't know that it's mirrors have been swapped. The power folding funtion worked fine before I removed the original mirrors and the OEM tow mirrors extended and contracted before they were removed from an 04 2500 4 door Duramax/Allison. My 06 Suburban is a 8.1 & 4L80E.

hello I just did the same thing to my 2003 Chevy 2500HD I swapped the power folding, heated, auto tinting, with turn signal mirrors for the OEM power extending tow mirrors and cannot figure it out, like you said when trying to contract the mirrors back into the cab of the vehicle (selector in the middle) the mirror lenses themselves react by folding down and in, not pulling the mirror assembly in, the motor to pull it in isn't being activated so its not an issue with them sticking any advice or knowledge??? another issue iv noticed recently after the swap is my folding mirrors when shifting to reverse adjusted to the setting they were last in the last time I was in reverse my new mirrors do there own thing now theres a pattern I haven't nailed down yet so just wondering if this is all related?

Has anyone come up with a solution for this problem I also have changed my mirrors from power fold to power extend and they only go out . It would make sense that if you push to the left and they extend you should be able to push to the right to retract, But when I push to the right the mirrors point to the ground like they want to fold in ... frustrated

NOTES FOR 2003 AND LATER CHEVY/GMC OWNERS:
For the 2003 - 2007 CLASSIC Model GM trucks WITH the stock power fold mirrors the install is a little different than our other models. This applies to models 6141 and 6141T. You simply take the stock mirrors off, put ours on in the same spot, and plug them in. Your GM dealer then needs to reflash your door module from a DL3 mirror code to a DPF (power extend/retract) mirror code. At that point, your truck's mirror programming is just like it would have been had it come from the factory with power extending mirrors. You do not need to install any wires or switches. The switch and wires that were doing the power fold will instead do the power extend/retract. For the 2003 - 2007 CLASSIC Model GM trucks trucks WITHOUT the stock power fold mirrors the door module will not support the DPF (power extend) code, so it will be necessary to install an extend/retract rocker switch as with all of our other models. This appllies to models 6140 and 6140T.
