Removing Horn Pad on 2012 Silverado

Recommended Posts

I haven't taken one off in a new pickup, but often times there are screws under the plastic covers in the steering column holding it in.

Also, keep in mind that cover houses your airbag, so disconnect the battery 10 or 15 minutes before you attempt to remove it, and NEVER store / set them upside down, or attempt to measure resistance of the airbag.

If it is the new body style ( '07.5-current ):

  1. Insert an allen head in the hole opening on the sides behind the wheel. This will eventually release the tabs that hold the airbag to the wheel.
  2. Remove safety lock tabs on the on the air bag then remove wiring connectors from airbag.
  3. Unbolt the four bolts attaching the airbag to the cover.
  4. The decal in the outer center of the bag has numerous tabs that are pushed through then folded over the airbag cover to keep that round decal in place.
