Protecting paint along bottom of doors

Recommended Posts

I was waxing the truck the other day and noticed there are already some small chips in the paint near the bottom of the doors. I do have mudflaps. In the past I've noticed some vehicles that had some sort of anti-chip coating applied along the lower quarter of the doors/bed. Perhaps Line-X or similar? What about that paint protection film? Any good? I plan to keep this thing a long time and its going to need all the help it can get being in the salt capital of Buffalo.

Also, what about having the underside of the truck "oiled"? I hear people have good luck with that but what about this weird factory undercoating that is like cake frosting? When I changed the oil recently, some splashed on a nearby part of the frame and that stuff just seems to melt......

Thanks for any tips.

No real suggestiins, but I too noticed my facrory Bridgestone tires (Z71 18") threw a lot of gravel at my rocker panels. I think the ckear film woukd be a step in the right direction, but I don't know how long it would last.

I'd go for the 3M clear film , great protection and you will not even notice it on there after its installed , for the undercoating check out Krown they have places in WNY . The Krown is a thinner undercoating that gets to places others can't , we have used them and Rust Check for a long time with no problems .

I have my rockers bedlined. 032d1b0a.jpg

I thought about doing this to my truck since it looks like the doors come down to the bottom and cover the sill. I dont know how it would look tho to do a black bedliner on white truck, even tho it would be inside the doors and unseen from outside.

I just washed my truck today and found a couple small chips in front bumper and one on bed side and side door... ugghhh

It didnt help me to take off my front mudflaps but i had to due to the nerf bars protruded and hit them...

Interesting, there is a Krown dealer right around the corner from me. I shall have to stop by there, thanks.

its great stuff the Krown or Rust Check , they actually creep upwards if you left it on the outside edges of your truck and didn't clean it off

The 3M or Invisible mask film works. As for the chips already there, DR Colorchip will fix those so you don't even see them.

Are you guys talking about the pre-cut 3M pieces or the new spray?

Has anybody on here used the spray with good results? Thinking about doing my front bumper.

I have used the 3M spray on my Jeep with 33x12.5 Mud tires. It has held up very well. It does leave a little bit of a textured look if you get close to it but have not had any problems with yellowing or chipping

Thanks for bringing the 3m spray film up I never heard of it before . Looks like your front bumper would be a good place to try it out :D

The Rock Guard film is by far some of the best stuff I have ever used. I like it on just about anything. First time I used it was on my '02 Jeep Liberty. Those rear fender flares just get peppered something fierce. When my Jeep only had 10k miles on it, the flares looked horrid. I got Dodge to repaint them for me and I immediately put the Rock Guard on them. I sold the Jeep with 80k miles on it and they still looked perfect! Here's a link to me putting some on my Firebird. It's really not too hard to do but there's some little tips you need to know in order to get it to lay down right.
