2010 Avalanche rear bowtie emblem. Anyone know of a decal overlay?

Hey all,

Just picked up a 2010 Avalanche LTZ and the rear bowtie emblem is already all messed up. It has that very common problem of discoloring and I was hoping someone may know of a vinyl decal cut to the correct size that could be put over the gold portion of the emblem rather than replacing it as I have heard that the emblem itself is rathe expensive and a pain to remove as well because of the adhesive left behind. I was hoping to try to find some sort of decal in either a gloss or matte black....

If anyone has a line on where to get one of these, please post. A link would be even better!

Thanks much,

-John

When I had my truck at 3M Trimline, they just used a piece of colored 3M vinyl, overlaid it, and cut it with an x-acto knife. Looked great, and last 8 years (when I sold it was still fine).

John,

Congrats on the new ride!

As for the bowtie, I am sure someone will be along who knows of a good place to order one from. Maybe check Ebay in the meantime.

As for removing the bowtie, there is a chance the paint may be faded enough that you would see the "ghost" from the bowtie. BUT... if you decide to try removing it, use some higher strength fishing line to help remove it. I have done this before on my Cobalt, in combination with some citrus cleaner it worked pretty good. Haven't tried it on either the '10 we had, or the new '13 though.

Good luck!

What he said. You can buy the vinyl on eBay if nothing else... I'd try a local sign shop first, though.

I dipped the wheels on my truck and they came out fantastic for what they were. No taping necessary.. the remainder just pulls off. Very impressed. If you're looking for a quick, easy satin black look for your bowtie that would work. There are other colors too.. and a glossifier, although I'm not sure how that works.

Still in this thread to see if anyone has a decent vinyl overlay vendor though... I want a gloss black for the Sierra badge on tailgate. Too big of a badge.. a black overlay inside of the middle of the letters would look fantastic. Don't want to remove the badge...

Also looking for a hitch cover but that's another thread entirely. haha

When I did my bowties on my Silverado, I used the fender vinyl from auto zone, cost me $12 to do front and back and about 30 minutes in the driveway. I just cut a piece bigger than the bowtie, and used a very sharp exact knife to cut inside the chrome, so I just covered up. The gold.

I'd go with this option as well. I did my GMC emblem in a carbon fibre sort of vinyl. Turned out pretty well. Vinyl is Cheap & Super easy to do too!

I'm going to plasti dip mine (like someone suggested early) My truck is White Diamond, so I'm going to paint it white and then use Performix PLASTI DIP Intl. Enhancer PEARLIZER as suggested by another member here.

I've done the vinyl on my 210 Camaro, my 2010 AV and my 2013 LTZ Malibu. It's seems to hold up well, but I figured I would give this a try.
