How to know if my 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 HD has keyless entry

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a used 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 HD, it has power locks but manual windows, the dealer I purchased it from didn't know if it had keyless entry or not as it didn't come with a key fob, Ive done some research on how to program new fobs and I can get my truck into "Program Mode" By holding down the unlock button and cycling the ignition on/off twice, the horn honks and the doors lock and unlock, so my question is if my truck goes into "Program Mode" does that mean it does have keyless entry capabilities? Is there any other way to know if it does or doesn't? Id like to know before I spend money on a replacement fob incase it doesnt have keyless entry. Thanks in advance

Check the RPO codes on the sticker in your glove box. On my '01 Burb, code AU0 is LOCK CONTROL, REMOTE ENTRY – KEYLESS ENTRY

You can also go to a dealership and they'll print out all the RPO code definitions for your truck.

I asked this very question 5 years ago when I bought my 2005. Mine is a WT with power locks and windows. It did not come with a key fob, either my dealer found a couple of the correct fobs in a big bin of them they had and gave them to me. I found as in yours my truck would go into programming but it would never learn the key fobs. I put in a R/S (Remote Start) with keyless entry in 2 months later, problem solved.
