01 suburban: fuel line disconnects at tank?

mike g 09

I am going to replace my fuel pump on my 2001 suburban. I replaced one 3 years ago (regrettably, with a store brand pump) and had quite a time releasing the connectors at the tank. At the time, I bought a disconnect tool, but I recall it didn't work well, due to the fact that there is a 90 degree bend in one of the lines, right near the connector.

Is there a recommended tool or procedure to make it easier this time?
