Retrax vs Roll n Lock

Well, it's time to get ideas on tonneau covers. My brother has a Roll n Lock, and I have found Retrax in my research. I like the idea of a cover that retracks (sp?), but don't really know the right way to go. I want security, and waterproof. What are your recommendations? Thanks.

I'm glad you asked that because I'm wanting to know the same thing. Hope the members have great info to share!

I'm a dealer for TruckVault & will put an Extreme model in that's waterproof but still want a retractable cover.

I'm also debating this and here is where I stand-

-Want hard cover for security, doesn't have to be waterproof but keeping most weather out would be nice

-Must be able to retract/fold/remove on location as I often end up with unplanned pickups that will require bed usage above the rails and most of the bed length so a hard fiberglass cap is out

Narrowed it down to a BAK Fibermax, BAK Roll-X or an Extang Encore based on reviews, functionality and how I use my truck etc, below is where I stand

Fibermax-Amazon has for $624 but is currently out of stock, was in stock last week so hoping they get more back in at that price. Not really fond of when its folded up blocking the back glass, but if I have to fold it up I probably won't be able to see out the back glass anyway due to what I have in the bed.

Roll-X-Like the look better and easy of use, does have more moving parts than the other options, also prefer how when it's rolled up most of the back glass is still visible. Not having a permanent canister in the bed, and the Roll-X being roughly 400 cheaper than the cheapest Retrax/Roll-N-Lock I've seen makes this one look pretty nice

Extang Encore-According to a dealer/showroom I talked to last week in Las Vegas, this is on a stop sale order for at least a month, they received the letter stating this from the manufacturer the Friday before Christmas. Sounds like they're having issues with the latch points or how it attaches to the bed and cab, prior to hearing that I really liked how easy this one was to install/remove and how the front most panel could be opened to get stuff at the front of the bed

At this point if I can get the Fibermax at the 624 price I'm probably going to get that, if the best I can do is the 764 at AutoAnything, that will be close enough to the Roll-X price of 799 or so that I'll probably go Roll-X. I think I would be happy with either of them, and if I can save 175 bucks it leaves more money for other things for it :)

I went with the Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite. It has four sections, can be opened and/or locked from either end, and can be completely removed in less than 5 minutes if needed. It lists for $820 on their factory site. Currently there is a $140 discount to bring it to $680.

Undercover flex is similar to fibermax but does not rest against the cab. That maybe. Good option

Undercover flex response was supposed to be for this response

Peragon....absolutely the best...and least expensive because they only sell direct to the consumer....no middle men!

I just ordered the G4. After lots of searching this seems like the best fit for me. I also noticed that the G4 is now a factory option when you "Build" a truck on the Chevy website.

I looked at the Peragon website today & watched the video they have. I'm liking what I see & the price is certainly right. My truck is going to be Summit White & I think the standard black would look just fine on it. They can do a color match but I believe the black would work on any color in case I decided to trade in a couple of years.

If anyone has any first hand experience with these covers, please post your thoughts.

I just ran across a YouTube video of a Pace Edwards retractable cover that might be worth considering as well. Haven't investigated price or anything else yet though.

I just installed the Peragon cover on my new 2014 Silverado. Looks great, already gotten compliments. Spent the extra $29 to have it lock both sides or the cover. I looked at MANY covers. I think that you probably wont go wrong with any of the major ones., but I liked the Peragon because:

1. Retractable, without a huge box in the back to hold the rollup....and these boxed do catch dirt.

2. I like the powder coated aluminum vs a vinyl cover.

3. You can open the cover without dropping the tailgate.

4. Takes about 30 secs to remove the panels if you neeed the entire bed.

5. VERY quality construction.

6. Great customer service.

7. Great price.

8. If you damage a panel, the individual panel can be replaced...you dont have to buy a whole new cover.

I think you'll be quite pleased with the G4. I have been. Keep us posted.

@captras - I watched the videos of the Peragon cover. I like the looks and the concept of its operation. But it looks to me like you have to allow clearance when loading the bed for the panels to close. And if the load shifts toward the front of the bed, will the panels still open? Since you have one, maybe you can give us a report on the goods and the bads.

I bought and installed the Fibermax cover on my 2014 Silverado. Nice cover, but after seeing this post, I looked at the Peragon cover, I think I would of went for for the Peragon instead.
