Rock1500 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Thanks! Everything has to go black... Just trying to decide on paint or PlastiDip. I sold the Vette but I still have a Camaro and Trans Am project in the works to keep me scratching. AT's in black look amazing, great call. I couldn't find one with the AC seats so I went with the SLT but now I'll have to get the bumpers and wheels done on my own. congrats on the new truck! i am on the same boat as you. i wanted the all terrain and i was going to order. unbeknown that gm does not offer the all terrain WITH a/c seats. that just doesnt make sense to me to be honest with you. just like i could not get the bose stereo without getting the all terrain package (that means having no a/c seats) or the texas edition package (meaning i would have to get 20 and loose my 18's) so i opt'd out of getting the bose seeing how it was not worth it in my opinion. It has to do with the seats and having no air holes in it. I really wish the AT came with lane departure though. That never made any sense why it was not an option.
Chevyrcg Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 the guy that might be doing my truck said that theyre going to use 3m 1080 gloss black is that what you have? that it may NOT match paint color to a 100%. your truck looks great in those pictures cant tell a difference. Hi guys, I am new to this forum and finding a lot of good info and members! i own a large Graphics business, we do Screen printing, Embroidery, and Large format digital printing which includes Vehicle Wraps. We do everything in- house and don’t risk sending anything out to another company and put my name on it. 3M makes the best products for any type of vehicle graphic applications, whether it be basic lettering or complete wraps. The 3M 1080 vinyl product is made to be used to do everything from wrapping individual pieces to being able to completely change the color of your vehicle and look like paint. This product is made so that it doesn’t have to be laminated to protect it. A typical wrap with printed graphics or designs on it has to be laminated to both protect the graphics from being scratched or damaged and the laminate has UV protectant in it to keep it from fading. The prices you are being quoted for the bumper / grille wraps are exceptionally fair considering the cost of this product and the skill, time and labor it takes to make this type of application look perfect. If anyone has any questions concerning wraps, prices, or any other info about this type of work, feel free to hit me up, i will be glad to answer any questions.
Chevyrcg Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Got some shots from my AWESOME wrap guy! You can see details of the mirrors and door handles, as well as the interior 3M Carbon wrap... I hated the wood, so the inside is much better now, IMO. Ignore the tape on the windows, that was from the window tint guy. Hey DLS, these guys did a first class job on your truck, I own a company that does this too and the quality is first class, the material they used is the best, and the price they charged you is more than fair…. these guys know their stuff! I have been meaning to order a roll of the carbon fiber material (the stuff is very expensive) to do the metal accents inside my truck just like yours, along with a few other ideas i have, but seeing these photos has made me pull the trigger and just got off the phone with my distributor!!. Can’t wait to get it in and start wrapping. Nice job! i will post pics when I get it done.
Stars_Fan Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I found a shop here in Dallas that can wrap my bumpers and also do the interior inserts as well. They quoted me $225 each bumper , is that a fair price? I know it's alot cheaper than painting but just wondering what you paid to get yours done.... Can you share the name of this shop please.

BlueWrapper Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Awesome thread with great ideas and info DLS. I think there are a lot of buyers out there that want certain combinations but despise the chrome bumpers! Your truck looks great and your pictures are awesome too.

Chevyrcg Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Seeing that the photo’s of your truck have inspired me to do the Carbon Fiber pieces as well and now I have a whole roll of this stuff, I am posting pics for you to see the metal trim pieces on the steering wheel I did with some scrap from the door panel pieces. Not sure if the trim is the same on the GMC as the Chevy but from the looks of a small piece I can see in your photos I suspect they are……here it is:
TJay74 Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Dang you all, this is exactly what my AT needs. Looks like I will be seeing how much CF wrap on the interior silver parts is going to cost here. That and see if they can wrap my mirror covers and the door handles in white.
thecobra Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Well, you encouraged me to give wrapping a shot. This is my first honest attempt at vinyl wrap. It's nowhere near perfect, but by the end, besides it being dark out, I got way better at it. Here are some shots of when I picked my truck up and the in progress vinyl.
Bkew Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Looks awesome. I have a white SLT Z71....always liked the AT look. Will have to look locally for some one that can do it. Question, I know some people that have used Plasti Dip in color on chrome parts (grill) and it looks really good if you know how to use a spray can well. Anyone looked at this option?

Where are the bad parts? If you need some vinyl let me know I can send it to you in case you want to re-do anything that you don’t like the results. The only thing I can say that I would have done it inside, dust can show up behind it and leave it not looking like paint. I have been trying to find the time to wrap my bumpers too, but I work so damn much I don’t want to rush it. As far as I can tell …..great job, especially seeing this was your first attempt! Hit me up if you need anything or pointers / help.

Hit me up if you need anything or pointers / help. Bad parts are some tears where I pulled a little too hard with too little material, and a couple wrinkles that I got when trying to stuff it up and under the plastic cover above the bumper. The cover has a lot of wiggle room, but I had to keep trimming to stop the vinyl from catching on it. I'm also going to look into removing the fog light deletes next time for a cleaner wrap. The chrome shows way too much when you miss even a small spot. I did do a quick test once before and quit while I was going because I lost my patience - unfortunately that was when I had a shop lined up to use. I was on the fence about doing it outdoors, but didn't have any issues with dust or dirt. I'm set for vinyl - I bought a 25'x5' roll so I'd have a bunch to mess up and learn with. I still need to wrap the back bumper and grille. I think I started with the hardest and largest of the three, which is good. Looks awesome. I have a white SLT Z71....always liked the AT look. Will have to look locally for some one that can do it. Question, I know some people that have used Plasti Dip in color on chrome parts (grill) and it looks really good if you know how to use a spray can well. Anyone looked at this option? That's the look I'm after, but I'm not sure how it will look missing the chrome insets inside the grille. Might be a little too blacked out. We'll see. I considered plasti-dip, but from what I see, you can't get the same kind of shine out of it even with the glossifier. I want it to look painted. More shots now in the day time
bass mechanic Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 OP ive wrapped chrome before and i can tell you that unless you wrap it with clear bra it will get nicked like a chip when stones hit it. if you don't want to have to have it redone in the future you might at least clear bra over the areas exposed to direct in hits from sand and rocks.
