Happened to me the other day, started truck and threw it in reverse almost immediately, backup camera came on but when put in D screen was totallk blank, HVAC worked, and radio worked w/ steering wheel buttons but none of the media/radio buttons would respond. Shut it off and turned back on, got the "GMC intelllink" red logo on screen, but then went back to blank w/ same response. Shut it back off and went in to grab my takeout, when I came back out and turned it on 10 mins later when back to normal. ALso bluetooth didn't work.

NOT GOOD, happened occasionally on my G8 but that screen was less important. I'm thinking an extended warranty may be in my future, I wanted to keep this truck minimum 7 years 150-175,000 miles, and the thing will be useless as a DD if the engine/tranny runs fine but the electronics are all shot.

You can buy all the extended warranties you want. GM will just say that's the way it is supposed to be, and refuse to fix it. Then one of these GM monitors here will get involved and pretend to do something beside ask for your vin and dealer

That's the problem with GM extended warranty - it's their descretion to use. If the screen works fine for them, not replaced. Or if they say that's normal - not replaced. Or if they can simply say, user error (not that I'm saying it is) - not replaced. Besides, if that 8 inch screen does give out, the aftermarket has already got a replacement/upgrade covered.

Mine did it on the way home today running down the road. I push the home button and after a while it came back on. But why did it do that I don't know.

Didnt read all the responses but this happened to me and I called OnStar about the issue. They sent some kind of reset signal to the module and it has worked ever since. Not sure if this helps but it was my fix!

Mine has done it once. When I had my music and movies on a sd card that was to slow. Put everything on a faster sd card work never went black again. Have noticed that the screen brightens and dims. Also dash lights don't know if that has to do with brightness outside or not.

Mine did something similiar, only instead of black out, the screen "scrambled".
I took it to the dealer, they tried to get it ti repeat that problem and had no luck. They did end up finding a software update for the Mylink system, so they loaded that, it hasn't done it since, so i'd guess the update fixed the issue.

OK this is the second time it has done this. I know the dealer will tell me the same thing is that they can't get it to do it. I hope someone can get an answer for some where or some one on this.

This just happened to me a few days ago. Got in the truck and noticed the screens did not light up as normal. Started the truck and the large screen was black and the smaller was very dim. Shut off the truck and restarted it and it has been fine since. I have a punch list going for the dealer when I take it in for an oil change.

Maybe this is the update Kennedy was referring to. Found this on TECHLINK:

Blank Touch Screen after Start-up and in Reverse

January 23, 2014

The infotainment touch screen may be blank after start-up and in Reverse, a rearview camera message may be displayed, and there may be Bluetooth® and navigation system conditions on the following models equipped with radio-infotainment system RPOs IO4, IO5, IO6 or RAO (except with RPO UPF):

• 2014 Silverado 1500 built prior to October 1, 2013

• 2014 Sierra 1500 built prior to October 1, 2013

Some possible Bluetooth conditions include the screen not returning to the Home screen after ending a call, cannot call contact work/mobile number for more than one contact with the same name, and issues concerning speech recognition.

Some navigation conditions include no results found after performing an address search with an incomplete address, the selection of a Point of Interest address delivers a wrong destination position, and the map freezing when panning in the 10k zoom scale.

An updated software calibration has been released to address these conditions.

Well, my 3 week old SLT is doing something similar now. Driving today, the screen was repeatedly going black and each time it did it also disconnected my phone from Bluetooth. Half the time when it reconnects the audio from calls is not heard. The other party on the call can hear me. Between that and the front park assist beeping warnings for things that aren't there the love is fading. Have to say I'm glad it's leased cause if this continues I'm going to be happy to see it go.

I am having the same problems with my 2016. Screen repeatedly goes black and when it does it drops the Bluetooth connection to my phone. Very frustrating!

Another post on this. It was supposed to be fixed in the '16s with a new HMI module, but my '16 screwed up the same way.

Brought mine back by pulling the RaDiO fuse in the passenger fuse bank which hard reboots the head and it has been OK for the past few weeks. Mentioned it to the dealer and that is how they have been correcting the problem.....pulling the battery cable will also erase the tranny programming.

I have less than 300 miles on my 2020 GMC Sierra 2500HD. I have utilized the remote start feature on my fob 3 times so far. Each time, upon entering the vehicle, I place my foot on the brake and push the start button to bring it up to life. Everything works fine, with the exception of the infotainment screen. It remains black, with the exception of displaying the rear camera view when I back out my driveway. Once back in drive, it goes back to black. I have to park the vehicle, turn it off, and then re-start using the vehicles start button to bring the display back on. Anybody else having this issue?

Just actually stumbled across this page while browsing coloradofans. Jeff from Dallas Texas, 2018 Colorado 4x4 LT, basically Stock as it's my daily. Also have a 2018 Camaro ZL1. I need some help, before I start looking at all of your trucks, mods, other cool stuff..

(copied this from coloradofans.com, also from a few subs on reddit..)

Hi all, need some advice- Let me preface this with, I am not trying to get anyone in trouble nor an I trying to throw anyone under the bus. I just want my Colorado fixed. I appreciate anyones feedback as I explain the story.
      2018 Colorado LT, 4x4, 30k miles....

About three weeks ago, I had an appointment at my local Chevrolet dealer, which is a very large dealer in the Dallas/Fort-Worth metroplex. The truck has a very weird sounding, only can be described as an intermittent, yet ANNOYING and LOUD squeaking/rubbing sound coming from what sounds like the front of the truck. I showed up to my appointment, and the service advisor and I went for a ride, and he said that he could barely hear the sound, but I was able to hear it as clear as day. He also pointed out that he heard it when we accelerated, and when we braked. Nothing when we were coasting, not using the brakes, etc. He told me that I would have to leave it with him for a few days, or get there early on a Saturday for his guys to take it in. I didn't have the ability to do that at the time, so I told him I would reach back out in about a week or so.
Fast forward a week - I was to be traveling so I was going to leave the truck prior to leaving the DFW airport. I ran some errands in the morning, and after getting the truck up to operating temperature, It is not making the sound, at all. Unfortunately I did not have the time to deal with this at the time so I went back to my house, and hopped a ride to the airport.

Once I got back, and started my routine I noticed that the noise is still back and I can still hear it as loud as day. I made an appointment for 8:15 AM on last Tuesday. I showed up at 7:30 and they got me checked in. We took it for a ride around the lot, and the service advisor heard the noise. He got me right in. the shuttle took me to work. About three hours later he called me and he said - and please bear with me, I am no mechanic and my terminology may be off - "There was a seal in the transfer casing that was rotted..we fixed it, blah blah..and now it is not making the noise, OH, and you need an oil change. Want that while you're here?".

Hopped an uber back to the dealer on my lunch and drove back to the office. Everything seemed fine. I got out of work around 5pm that day and went to the grocery store, sure enough, the noise is still there, and louder than ever. I am getting frustrated at this point. I reviewed the work order only to find out that it mentions nothing about fixing anything, only that the tech could not duplicate the issue I described.

At this point, I am very hesitant to go back to that dealership, so I reach out to some other local enthusiasts for a referral, and I make contact with someone who works at a dealership about 30minutes south of where I live. I was to stop by Saturday morning, and ask for his buddy the service advisor. No problem at all. I stopped in right on time, met with the advisor, we took it for a ride around the lot. Sure enough, there it is! The noise on the stop, and on the go! He heard it, I heard it. But he told me that they won't get to it until Monday because the suspension, front end guys, etc, won't be in. I say OK, Whatever it takes. I also say, hey since I am new to town and need my registration switched, can you guys please do a safety inspection? He says yeah no problem.

Another $35 uber back to my apartment.

Today I get a call. And now, I am being told that the noise I am hearing is the noise of air going into the engine, and it's louder because I have a K&N Blackwing Cold Air Intake system. Which makes absolutely zero sense, since the noise only happens on the stop and go, and it's also a grinding/rubbing/squeaking noise. However, at this point.. I am not arguing. Because I have a short temper and I really don't want to be mean right now. You catch more bees with honey than vinegar.  I just picked it up, and it's still making the same noise. The intake is not causing the issue.. and I don't have the stock one as I just moved here.

I'm not a mechanic, but that's the stupidest **** I've ever heard. I have had intakes on all of my cars. There's one on my 2018 ZL1 camaro, no noises like that. I had them on my 2016 SS, 2015 C7, etc.. Never had any issues. The only COMMON issue here is that much like in the past like I've dealt with Pontiac back in 2009, the dealership is using any kind of excuse to not have to do any work at all. (Example - in 2010, broken ball joint on my 2009 g8 gt - they blamed it on my roto-fab engine covers hitting the hood, when in fact, it was a MAJOR TSB..)

      So a couple of things.

      1) Where in DFW can I go to get this fixed
      2) Should I even bother calling the GM customer care number.. because I am SERIOUSLY SICK OF "NO RENTALS BEING AVAILABLE" and having to pay for an uber. It's going to cost me $36 to get to the dealer tomorrow to pick the truck up.
      3) Any other advise.

      Thanks in advance.

2016 Denali 3500 crew cab. Passenger side brake light / turn signal lamp is not working.  Running light is working.  New bulbs.  Is there a fuse or relay that can be checked?  I have not been able to locate one.

I’m having issues with my 2019 Sierra Denali Infotainment screen.  About 5 weeks ago, with less than 2000 miles on Truck, when starting my Truck the screen flickered and went black.  It smelled like something was burning, but no smoke or anything.  I took the Truck back to the dealer and they worked on it for almost 2 weeks, but did not fix it.  First they said the software needed to be reloaded.  They tried that at least 3 times with no success.  Then they said it was an HCM module and had to order a new one.  That didn’t work.  Then they said they need to replace the screen which is on backorder with no expected shipping date.  Anyone else have this issue?  I’m extremely pissed this happens to a new 65K truck and the dealership takes no responsibility in trying to get this resolved in a timely manner.  They say it’s a GM issue and they can’t do anything about it.

This happened to my 2009 Sierra, the head unit screen went blank but the radio is still working and I can increase and decrease the volume and change the station etc., Any feedback on how to resolve the issue other than installing a new head unit? Can I replace only the display without having to replace the head unit?
