Tailgate Removal

Recommended Posts

I took it apart long ago and have no memory of how I did it. Tried a few weeks ago to pull it apart, ended up just giving up.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up putting the seal on with the tailgate on. Not ideal but not as bad as i thought either.

Thanks Andy

There is also diagrams on page 2-10 of the owners manual.

To remove the tailgate:
1. Raise the tailgate and support it
firmly. Pull out and hold the
cable retaining clip (1). Push the
cable (3) up and off of the
bolt (2). Repeat on the

other side.
2. With the tailgate about halfway
open, lift the right edge of the
tailgate from the lower pivot.
On vehicles with the tailgate
assist feature, raise the tailgate
nearly all the way to the closed
position prior to removing the
left edge.
3. Move the tailgate to the right and
away to release the left edge.
Reverse this procedure to reinstall
the tailgate. Make sure the tailgate
is secure.

Slide the red tab out it will move a bit.

Then squeeze the area in front of the red tab to release the catch and slide the plug off.

The red tab is a lock that blocks the catch release.

This is the first time I've seen the slide locks, other cars I've had you just squeezed the sides of the plug when you wanted to remove it.

You don't have to remove the spare. Follow that wire around the spare(on the drivers side) and there with be 3 plugs if I remember right. I think it's the green one, unplug it and feed the wire back through. It is a little tricky to unplug, I used a small flat head...

How about disabling the camera display once the gate is removed.  I used the spare dummy plug to cap the end of the wire.  However when I use reverse the screen lights up bright blue and says service the backup camera.  Problem is that the BRIGHT blue screen is blinding at night.
