Noise I cant find! 2004 gmc sierra 1500 z71 5.4

I need help please!

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 5.4 Z71 4x4 extended cab SLT. I have this noise that is only there when I accelerate up till about 20 or so mph then its gone. It never does it when i coast around those speeds or higher. I have replaced both u joints thinking its that. It does the usual small clank when shifting from first to second (but its smooth) when the vehicle is not under a load (like a hill or such.) But when I shift from reverse to park its a loud clank. Could it be the transfer case?

Its the slip yoke! Its around 170-200$ to get replaced. You need the nickel plated slip yoke. There is a service bulletin for this.

If it is indeed the slip yoke just grease it and look forward to greasing it on occasion.

Not trying to be a wise guy, but for future reference, you have a 5.3L (325 cubic inch) engine. If you had a 5.4L motor under your hood, it'd be from an old Ford, and that would explain any strange noises.

Found out the problem! I had problems with my 4wd months ago. I took it to a mechanic shop for them to work on the transfer case. Well they forgot to put OIL BACK IN IT!! I put two bottles of transmission fluid back in the transfer case. Nose is gone. I wonder how much damage they've done!?
