Z71 - Actual meaning? Additions? Differences?

Recommended Posts

Those kits are nothing but a few Chinese stickers to plaster on the truck. They actually charge for that junk? It looks like the people who drive down to the junkyard and pull random emblems from some performance vehicle and slap them on their 1982 Ford Escort.

I took off my 4x4 sticker and replaced it with a Z71 one instead. I always drove Z71's up till now and I just didn't feel right without the sticker. Now I feel better.

Just so their is no illusions and you understand fully, that is called "humping" in most circles. Trying to pass off something that it is not.

In the Honda world, it is the cheap ass kids that put a "VTEC" badge when they cannot afford a the real thing and they are usually laughed at by those in the know. In the biker world, it is guys putting "Harley Davidson" on kit bike builds when it is not and in some bike club circles, can get your face punched in.

Just fully understand that while that badge may fool somebody in passing, it is not a Z71 and most who are versed on Chevy trucks will shake their head in disdain and will gain no respect from the community at large.

Lastly, if you ever sell it, the vehicle will never come up as Z71 package and you will not get crap for that little sticker on the side.

I don't understand the point of putting a Z71 sticker on a non Z71. But then again I don't understand the point of putting a Z71 sticker on a Z71 either lol. It's not like Z71 is anything to write home about, the only thing that really matters is the shocks and aftermarket ones blow them out of the water anyway. JMO.

Thanks for setting me straight Hootbro.

This is my third Silverado now. My first one I took off the Z71 sticker and put a Z69 sticker on. My last Z71, I de-badged and then put a 'Pilot' emblem on it because I'm a pilot. Was I 'humping' back then? I hope no one thought that I was really driving a Honda Pilot. I made sure when I sold it there was full disclosure that it was not a Honda Pilot.

The one I just bought is exactly like my last one..., just better. I wanted a Z71, but I also wanted a Custom Sport. Turns out I could get a Custom Sport and just swap the 4x4 sticker for a Z71! That was an easier option to me then getting a Z71 and make it look like a Custom Sport. So thanks for the education on 'humping', but I don't feel the least bit ashamed at what I did. There is very very little difference between my truck and a Z71 so I don't feel bad about it. I'd never try and pass it off as a Z71 when I sell.

You will never be able to get rid of those god-awful ugly fake wood grain panels GM decided to cheese up your non-Z71 equipped truck's interior with.

You should have went with the Z71, upgraded to the 20s if that is the look you were going for.

Here's a pic of the inside of my truck. I don't know what to say lefty421..., my interior looks amazing I think. No wood grain here.

I'm shaking my head at the posts about ride difference between Z71 & Z85... they are the same damn springs front and rear! I've made my parts dept look them up! Shock absorbers and skid plates are the only difference. Shocks won't make something ride different... handle different, maybe, ride... never. If you buy an LT1 or LZ1 you have no Z71 if you buy an LT2 or LZ2 you have Z71... but they'll all ride the same.

Mind you, I've also had people argue with me that a GMC will ride better than a Chev or vice versa... it's all just perception, they all ride the same.
