Z71 - Actual meaning? Additions? Differences?

Recommended Posts

I guess I'm still at a loss here as I've never seen a Chevy w/ the carbon fiber interior accent pieces. Z71 or not. I've seen plenty of Z71's in LTZ and I think LT trim, they all had the wood accents.

In the Sierra SLT (and maybe SLE as well) all have wood trim, Z71 or otherwise. The ONLY trucks I've seen w/ carbon fiber look are the Sierra AT's. I thought it was specific to the AT package? Now, the AT package does include the Z71, so that may lend to a bit of confusion.

I think he misspoke. The only carbon fiber looking stuff on the Chevy is the Z71 cluster, just like the 900-series trucks.

Nope, I didn't misspeak.

My LT Z71 (2LT) has NO wood panels at all. Only brushed metal/carbon fiber looking panels. These panels are on my center console, and also on my doors. They match the Z71 cluster and the Z71 sill plates. Maybe these panels are only on the LT Z71 trucks... Guess GM figured the wood grain panels were an upgrade so they probably put them on all the LTZ trucks, both 1LZ and 2LZ, instead of the metal looking ones on the 2LT.

From the sounds of it, I'm guessing only the 2LT trucks have the metal looking accent panels.

I only shopped the chevy trucks, so I"m not sure what the GMC trucks have....

My truck....

Ahhhh, gotcha. This is NOT the "carbon fiber look" that the Sierra AT's have. But I agree, it's similar and looks WAY better than the fake wood in my opinion. Seems the wood trim is a "luxury" item in the LTZ's.

x2. I just wish that's how the GMC would be because the SLE gets ugly woodgrain even if you pick Z71 which is a shame because the real aluminum trim and red accent lighting is nice.

I find it humorous that even a bunch of Chevrolet enthusiasts as ourselves are confused by what does and does not come with a Z71 package. Now imagine how the average non-enthusiast sees it. I was explaining my new LT Z71 to my cousin today and he immediately asked me "you bought another 4WD?" To which I replied that it was a 2WD with a Z71 package. Chevy had us all convinced in the 90's that Z71 automatically meant 4WD off-road, and then decided all of a sudden to change it up and confuse the hell out of everyone.

Yeah my buddy just bought a 14 LTZ Z71 its got the same silver carbon fiber looking panels in it. Z71 Appearance package. Its also got the Z71 suspension package.

I don't understand GM's stance about the Z71... my 2012 Z71 was 4x4 with Rancho shocks and all that hoopla plus also had the Z71 Appearance package with had color matched bumpers, carbon fiber gauge panels and alum door sold. My buddy's and my Dad's same year trucks was Z71 but DID NOT have Rancho shocks and it also wasn't the Z71 Appearance package either. And another friend bought a 2013 Z71 and it was 2wd. So there is a ton of confusion regarding the "Z71" package.

Z71 is just the Rpo for the Off Road suspension. Just like Z60 is performance suspension, z85 is towing suspension. Basically z71 is shocks, skid plates, and stickers Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

True. But now Z-71 is more of an appearance pkg. Sill plates, gauge cluster, grill (I love the grill ) and do not forget that sticker. I have a red 4x4 and it has the red 4x4 sticker. its the only color the decal comes in for 2014. I think I will just remove the decal and buy a used Z-71 grill and remove the badging. Anyone looking for a chrome grill? But do not blame poor ride on shocks alone . This is my second 2014. The first rode very well. But this one rides like the tires are square. I have to take it in for some repairs soon and Ill ask them to check the tires. It has the all terrain Goodyears. Anyone else having this problem?

But as far as wood grain ,fake carbon fiber, ect. . I have decided to take my truck down to a local Mexican auto interior shop and have the entire dash, door panels. and any other piece of this SNAP,CRACKLE,POP cheap ass interior covered with bright orange 1970 era 1 inch shag carpet. Headliner "dingle balls" and all. :pimp:
