Greetings from California

Greetings from Northern California, all. I'm a Southerner born and raise, and moved to CA a few years back. I'm new to GM trucks, and just picked up a 1997 GMC 1500. The idea is that it would last until I could get a newer model, but I friggin' love that truck. I'm kind of hoping is lasts forever.

I went from a Honda Civic (I had a long 50+ mile commute when I got that one) to this truck, and I was surprised at how quickly I felt at home in it especially considering the size difference.

Since getting it, I've already hauled heavy loads and taken up and down some dirt roads in the northern part of the county.

I've noticed a very small oil drip from somewhere in the right-front of the engine (one spot on the cardboard underneath, maybe 3-5 actual drops from overnight), so I'm going to get under there and see if I can figure out where that's coming from. The dealership where I got it assured me (as if they wouldn't say it) that all the seals, etc., had been checked.

In a truck that old, I can't say I'm surprised there's a small leak. What do you guys think? Is a drip that small something I should worry about, or is it pretty common? If it progresses and gets worse, I'd be sure to take action.

One more thing: Here's a funny story ... I'm switching from a driving commute to taking the ferry to work, but I didn't have time to get my ferry pass yet. So I had to take the truck into San Francisco to my parking garage near work. Thanks to being lifted and the all-terrain tires, the truck is quite a bit higher than stock. I was a little worried about fitting in the garage at all, and as it turns out, I only had about two inches of clearance when I pulled in. My radio antenna (which sticks up about 2 or 3 inches from the top of my cabin) scraped on a few of the signs. But, I took it slow and was able to park and get to work. Tomorrow, I'll park at the ferry building and its nice, roomy, outdoor parking lot.

This truck belongs in the country, and that's where I plan to keep it!

Can't wait to see y'all around the forums!
