The GDO itself is a Genie and has a rolling code. The transmitters I've got are Lift Master, Genie, and Chamberlain. Lol. I guess I've collected various brands over time. Only the Chamberlain Key FOB doesn't program. Everything does.

I may look into switching the HL to something other than Constant Power. I don't keep any valuables in the garage but... why give someone who is outside, access to be that much closer.

Hmm, i just thought about it more. would the HL lose it's memory if it loses power?

[emoji848] - Good Point. I guess another one to put on the list to test. [emoji23]

Did you install your HL or was it in from the factory. Some hand held transmitters don't transmit as long as you hold the button down. For those you have to press-release-press-release as long as it takes or they turn off after a few seconds.

The HL in the truck is Factory and programs fine. It's the key fob unit that doesn't. I have other hand held transmitters that programmed fine. I really only like the key fob since it stays with the key.

if there is 3 wires to it then it is 12v constant, 12v switched, and ground. I have setup several HL GDO on vehicles that didn't come with them. There is nothing to setting them up.

If this is true Maybe we don't have the switched 12v in our trucks just the constant 12v and that is why it will not learn. I thought the switched 12v was for the LED lights on the buttons for at night

You see the difference We are installing HL into trucks that didn't have the option from factory. Remember the heated steering wheel install ---- trucks with out pedal package didn't have the 12v in the plug for steering wheel Could be the same scenario. Might be the switched 12v is missing so you just can't add it plug n play. It would be nice if someone would find the pin layout of the main connector to the console and note what that other wire (not the ground or 12v constant) actually does..Or just test the one in their working HL to see when or if it is energized I will eventually figure this out. But I think if we all work together on this we will get it figured out. Just like the other installs on this site.

Hey ladies & gents,

Just to give a quick update on this, I know this is a bit late but for anyone else wanting to know this. You FIRST need to go to some place like www.gmpartsonline.net and drill down to you make/year/model and ensure there is a option for a replacement for the trim/harness/buttons/transmiiter for your vehicle, IF you DO see these options, you more than likely will be able to do this OEM style and not aftermarket (not guaranteed based on you situation). The transmitter for mine is as stated by another guy, that all is needs is power, it doesn't connect to anything else like the vehicle computer or anything, it is self contained. I decided to do the research on this after being told from the dealership, "You can't add this to your vehicle".. Upon researching this myself, I found I could buy a new harness (to have the OEM HomeLink plug on it), Trim plate (to be able to add the buttons), the buttons themselves and the transmitter. All in all I think I spent about 180.00 to keep it OEM. I WAS able to do it. I have a video that show tips and tricks on a 2014 silverado LT and changing the said above parts on the overhead console.. I made a youtube video on this make/model/color for my truck. I seriously hope is helps others wanting to do the same thing. I also upgraded my OEM 4.2" radio (i04) without OEM backup camera to a 8" (i05 - no nav) with OEM backup camera on the same truck. I'm getting together a small video on this as well and post it on my channel in youtube.

Did your truck come with any extra option packages from the factory. If so which ones.

I understand the differences with mine and what with thread is about. I was only sharing my experience and based on this thread, decided to try and program mine. The pinout for the HL was found in page 1193 of the 2016 Upfitter. 4 pin connector, with 3 circuits. The 3rd circuit is the LED Backlight Dimming Control. Power and Ground are the other two.

Then you would agree they should work The second 12v is for the little button lights so you can see them at night. That endorses my belief that the ones we are buying on Ebay from Priority...... are faulty. So I will buy another one from a Salvage dealer and try that. Thanks for your help. I trust your knowledge and appreciate your input when it doesn't really benefit you. I'll post my results

Yep. Sounds like it should've just worked. I also did another test since I can't tell if Circuit #240 is constant 12V. Rolled the window down, turned truck off, waited at least an hour for RAP to be off. It still opened the garage. So it is constant 12V. Hope y'all get this figured out.

Does anyone have the part number for the harness that has the plug so we don't have to run a power and ground?

In the video of the guy that did the swap, he does show the new harness part #. Part # 23127742.

Probably a good idea and make sure your receiving end harness (headliner side) has pin #17 loaded for power, Pin # 10 for ambient lighting, and pin # 4 for ground. In his video, its Plug and Play.. but there could be variants on years/trims. It looks like Ground and ambient lighting are shared circuits that jumped to other places so those should be already present.

might be cheaper or just as cheap buying the whole console new. You have to buy 4 parts if you do the upgrade piece by piece: wire harness-homelink-trim plate-buttons. then you could sell your old console on ebay for a couple bucks. Also Just received a mailer from GM If you have a GM card. It states "Spend over $100 on parts at your GM dealership get $100 off your purchase" Sounds to good to be true but I'll check it out.

Ok here goes.. Good news Just received my console from Ebay Salvage yard console. $75 shipped Installed Drove down the road to program the HL and BANG in 5 seconds was programmed. Drove back to my garage---pressed the button and the door opened. Pressed again it closed. Success The consoles from Priority...... are faulty. Time for my next upgrade..
