2014 5.3L catch can question.

Recommended Posts

I know 100% that oil/fuel rated hose is a must for longevity. The only issue I have with the mike norris can is capacity. I need more than like 2oz as most guys say they empty them every 2500 miles. I think it would be 10x's easier to empty them at oil change intervals.

Thanks guys, I'll save up for two cans so that I can keep the system closed.

I have this can from a previous vehicle.

Worked pretty well. Could easily drain it every 3000-5000 miles. They even sell an extension that makes the oil collection part bigger.

Also they have some nice snap fittings. Then you wouldn't have to cut up your OEM hoses. They say they are Ford, but they look just like the ones on the new motors.

Actually, you really shouldn't use heater hose. A regular heater hose is not oil resistant and will start to decompose over time. This could lead to the hose losing its structural rigidity and collapsing when there is a vacuum. This could collapse the hose and block the PCV system altogether.

You should really use an oil resistant hose that are capable of withstanding a vacuum for the PCV catch can lines.

Something like this: http://www.hosecraftusa.com/model/RM1_Multipurpose_Rubber_Nitrile_Hose

Correct, I should have stated that you want heater hose that is oil resistant which the stuff I get from local auto parts store is. Most of it should be oil resistant though, none of it is fuel resistant.

It is simple to drain. Literally takes about 30-60 seconds total

Looks like a really nice setup. The ford fittings they show look just like ours, are they the same size?

Mike Norris makes a good catch can.

Who has installed a catch can on the 2014 L83?

I did a search and came up with nothing. I'm sure someone has.

What I am looking for is a good write-up....my understanding is that the installation is different from 2013 and previous installs.

I know RX makes a good one, who else makes a good catch can that is more than just an empty aluminum can?
