Slot above the headlight switch ??

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

Not big enough for cards, they stick out. I leave change there.

I think you are referring to something different than the OP..."horizontal slot opening above the headlamp switch". The SLOT is definitely a good place for gate cards. I use mine this way for the airport parking lot entrance/exit card. And it would not be good for change - it just wouldn't fit. Please see pic below for what he was describing.

Other trucks that DO NOT have the trailer brake controller have a "cubby" opening that could be used for change. This probably would not be good for cards. See second pic

Hmmmm, I have the second one and put the card under the rubber thingy.

I have a Z71 4X4

The first one look like you need to put your CC to start the truck. How much does it cost? :)

That's what I asked the salesman. Were they going to charge me for each trip in addition to the purchase? Or maybe it was some slot to insert a breathalyzer device into? :uhoh:

The wife uses hers for change, I think GM should have covered it up. It looks cheap.

In Colorado I heard it is a good place to keep your stash.

Mine has the trailer controls in that spot an I am fine with that. I don't own a credit card, change can stay in my pocket and I don't smoke weed.

I now have a new 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE, picked up yesterday it is my fourth owned GMC truck so no complaints (the last one was a 2003 Z71). I to found the slot and it drove me nuts. went through the whole manual, found out some stuff I didn't now about newer trucks, but not one word or picture about that slot. Did an online search and found one item, this was it... and I guess the consensus is its a card holder or at least I'm staying with that or lose it.

That slot is for a Pass card, like for my former work had a gated access, I put my card in that slot and be ready avail to slap the reader! The 'box' above, if there is not a brake controller is 'Toll coin" holder.
