My '15 SLT Dmax

Recommended Posts

Well I picked her up on the 22nd and I am trilled with the truck. I've put 1200 miles on and 800 of those towing my 4500lb fishing boat (which it totally dominates :driving: ). What a stallion of a truck. Awesome looking and I am in love with the coco dune interior. The steering wheel is incredible, soft thick & wonderful! I love the pad style buttons too. I do have a couple cons like the fact that pandora will blu tooth with android but not apple.... !?! Apple works fine plugged into usb and it also streams blutooth (anything, spotify, library, apps) through the "media" interface. but the pandora is not fully integrated trough blutooth (unless you use android arg!).

anyway..... I am thrilled with the truck. Coming from a 6.2 that ran premium fuel which is equal or more $$$ (it was a good truck, i loved it to) I'm seeing my fuel economy has gone up consistantly 2-4 mpg. I had my last truck almost 4 years and know what it would get in a given scenerio. Or on a familiar route. For example I did a 100 mile round trip saturday I've done that route 50 times before. My 6.2 would do 16-17 on that drive, my new DMAX with just 1200miles on the clock did 20.8! FYI the DIC has been dead on so far with my hand calculations

I'm low on time now but heres a few pics....

the 400mi is 50% towing/20% city/ 30% hwy empty

Very nice. The truck looks great in white.

I've often considered an HD but can't justify it since I rarely tow any more.

Nice truck! I would make the same decision you did.

Pay a little more for the duramax over the 6.2. Diesels hold there value much better than gas when it comes to resale.

Must not have read the part in the Owners Manual about not towing anything for the first 500 to 1,000 miles! I think it was do not town for the first 500, then don't tow anything too long/big for the next 500.

4500 might as well be nothing for that pickup.

Exactly... It's good for it to work a little. The first 150 was empty the next 150 was 60mph the next 300 was 70mph hills and it didn't break a sweat. Coasting down. Hill easing up hill. Cool ambient temps, consistent highway cooling. These motors are run in at the factory too. I went really easy on it. I'm a mechanic and IMO it was the perfect break in. Enough heat to set the rings without excessive heat which causes dreaded glazing. The rules the manual lays out have to be as close to dummy proof as possible. If you understand what's good and bad during break in you can get away with doing a lot of things.

My brother-in-law goes through a Tahoe LTZ every 2 years (business use) and gets rid of them due to mileage anywhere from 80-100,000 miles on them at the 2 year end, he runs the hell out of them as soon as he leaves the dealer lot and not once has he had a problem with the motor or drivetrain in that mileage period. One day I went with him to pick up a brand new 2013 LTZ and as soon as he got out on the interstate he floored it and I said your suppose to break them in first and he said iam, this has been going on for greater then 20 years, he has a extreme heavy foot.
