my truck is the basic WT with chrome package or 2WT and its got the small credit card sized screen on the instruments with the little trip meter stick to select through the menu.

nothing anywhere says v8 or v4 so is the v4 mode part of my truck or not? I would think if it was I would have some sort of indicator for it even with the most basic screen options.

all it is is a 2WT with 5.3L v8 and towing package and no other add-on options

all the engine info I get is my average mileage but nothing about trip mileage or last 25 or 50 mile best thing like I see on the rental truck

Guarantee you have it with a 5.3L V8. I'm pretty sure all engines have it actually. V8 or V6, both get cut down to V4 when power isn't needed.

Yes. It just doesnt have a screen that shows when it goes from v8 to v4. Dont know why they did that.

ok, thanks guys that's kinda what I thought but was secretly hoping I didn't have it

too many other issues wrong with this thing vibrating to bother worrying about things that are working lol.

it just bothers me not to know what its doing or if its acting right and I think seeing it would help me adjust my driving to get better mileage. GM really messed up not having that info added for the basic gauge set too.

I have a WT2 and don't have the color screen that shows when the engine goes from v8 to v4 either. I guess GM has to give the upper truck packages (LT etc.) something for their money with a different screen. We have the engine that goes from v8 to v4 but we don't have any way to see it on a screen. I don't need it and it will be more costly to replace than the black and white we are currently using. You need to go to the LT package (about $3,000 to $3,500 additional cost) and higher for that color screen.

That's a huge miss on Chevy's part to not have a light that shows you what node you're in on all models. Maybe next time.

yep, that's what im talking about, I don't need the fancy graph showing istant mileage updates but at the very least give us the little v8 v4 thingy on the screen where it says average mileages.

how else could we tell if its staying in one mode too much indicating something is wrong, we have no idea what is going on

Base model trucks never had the indicator in the past, nor did older Rams on any trim level. Not sure about the new ones. As for how to tell, the new engines are less obvious in the transition but they're far from transparent. If you just listen for the change in pitch and the slight vibration you'll be able to tell. I could in the new Suburban I rented without using the display.

it rides very quiet so hearing it isnt that easy and waiting to feel the vibration is kinda hard to do when its ALWAYS vibrating lol

its not the end of the world not to know but its also a very easy thing to add the feature on the small screens with a little reprograming if they wanted to

They gave me a 2014 2WT CrewCab 5.3L loaner for 2 weeks, it was nicer to drive than my 2014 CrewCab LTZ Z71 5.3L. The shifting was flawless, no delayed throttle response, no vibration, no shakes, and I could barely tell when it went into V4. I loved the full coverage molded vinyl floor.

I guess because it's a work truck your not suppose to care about which screen you have or what the screen displays.

Edit: the sticker price was $39,500

Is there a gauge or indicator you can add in the 2014 Chevy Silverado to tell you when you are in V8 or V4 mode etc.?

Maybe ScanGauge can do it but honestly I was able to tell when it was in V4 in all three of the 2015 SUVs I've driven, pickups will be no different. If anything they likely have less sound deadening and it should be more obvious.

I don't know about that, the two rentals I had with the gage that's shows it were smooth as glass the way they road and other then seeing it switch on the gage you couldn't feel of hear any change from v8 to v4 but I did have the windows up with a/c on since its the middle of summer
