what size tires to run on 17" rims

i have a 3500hd with the polished 18" wheels, and im looking to get some steel gm rims, ive found 17" steels for a decent price, but like to get some rubber to go with them, which leads to my question, i have 265/75/18's right now, what size tire would i need to get on a 17" rim so my speedo stays accurate and so the truck doesnt look like it has go kart wheels. would i need to end up around a 285/75/17 or??? thanks for the help

265/75/18 or 265/70/18? Just want to make sure beacuse there are no tires in a 265/75/18. Do you still have the original tires on the truck?

 

Assuming they are, and its 265/70/18, you are going to want a 285/70/17 to match the overall diameter.

The stock ones still, I must have read wrong or someone posted wrong. But they are the 265/70/18. But looks like I might end up with another set of 18's, set just got posted on Craigslist for $350 for alum ones. And they are the same ones I have. I'm going to take the ride to look at them tomorrow, I found some rubber to go on them for a decent price. I just need overtime now...
