brake job

Recommended Posts

i have a 2015 hd3500 with a canteen body on it, total weight, 11,800 lbs. do 60 miles a day, 60 mile commute and 35 stop and go all day. some days i smell the brakes really working, heating up by end of day. i usually go 10k or so on a set of front pads and 20 on a rear set. i just bought POWERSTOP – Z36 EXTREME TRUCK AND TOW SEMI-METALLIC BRAKE PADS for front and rear, anyone use these ? i have 6500 miles now and have a few months before i need to install them, but we'll see. also i heard GM put some new coating or something on the front rotors to extend life, the rotors have a matte sort of finish to them.

Do you use tow/haul while driving? Sure it will hit your mpg's a bit but it will use the powertrain to slow the truck rather than relying on just the brakes. I'd imagine you are running near or close to the GVWR of the truck.
