Gas leaking from primer

Recommended Posts

I have an '01 rancher 350 and there is gas leaking from around the primer on the carb. The carb was recently cleaned and after taking it off, it still looks quite clean. I took the primer off and the sealing gasket still looks good. The bike ran fine while it was leaking, so it didn't appear to be flooded. Has anyone had this issue?

Somewhat related. I have a late 90's Skidoo Élan snowmobile that had a leaky primer. This primer is the plunger type on the panel. I don't think years of using ethanol gas helped out much. It deteriorates rubber components faster than pure gas.

I was able to buy a new primer off eBay that fit right in, problem solved. I also had to change a carb boot, and a grommet in the gas line pickup. Both had rotted away when I picked up this used snowmobile.

Always replace all o-rings, gaskets, and any rubber or plastic products like float and needle, when rebuilding a carb. It never worth the potential problems later for a couple dollars saved now.
