around $800 for the pair

Bilstein is late to the party.

The first introduction to these was back in 2015

Excited to read reviews of those going from 5100s to 6112s.

I noticed a big difference on my 2009, especially in the rough stuff! On road, there is less motion translated to the cab as the bigger shock is able to use less effort to control the bumps. I think on these heavier full size trucks, you really are best off with a 2.5" diameter shock or larger up front.

Which shock is recommended for the rear? I have a '15 Sierra Max Tow if it matters. 5160? I know it's in here somewhere but this is the downside of such a long thread. Thanks.

5160s or 5100s. 5160s are a tad longer and will allow you to run up to a 3" block, where as the 5100 is only good for a 2". Ride quality and valving is the same, but 5160s can take a bit more of a beating offroad without fading due to the reservoirs.

5160 Rear - 25-242515 - http://battlebornoffroad.net/bilstein/bilstein-truck-off-road-b8-5160-series-shocks/25242515/i-7476078.aspx
5100 Rear - 33-238319 - http://battlebornoffroad.net/bilstein/bilstein-truck-off-road-b8-5100-series-shocks/33238319/i-2157392.aspx

Be sure to add qty 2, and be sure to use the code: GMTRUCKS

So the block in the rear on the Rough Country 5" kit is a 3inch block. So do I need the 5160's ? I could've sworn I had seen tons of guys lifted who used the 5100's

If you are using the standard 0-1" 5100 for the 1500s and that block, you are limiting your travel by a bit. It will work, just realize the shock is being stressed at full droop pretty hard.
