Has anybody gone from an LML Duramax to a 6.0L gas?

Recommended Posts

Very well put, I had a 04 LLY Diesel that I used towing boats but after I stopped towing I just couldn't justify keeping a Diesel just to run around in so I got rid of it and went back to the 6.0. The question is do I regret it? No I don't.

I think 80% of the people who have Diesels don't have a use for them and have them just for the status symbol.

Is there anything wrong with that? Its their money.

Nope, Nothing wrong with that. You are correct, it is their money. The only problem I have with it is when some of those folks like to play the "I am better than you" game because of it, and feel the need to run others down because they have a diesel the other guy doesn't. Like it is some measure of their manhood. I really could care less if someone parts with their money over a Ferrari if they want. I wouldn't buy one, but I could give a rip if they do. It is all about attitude.

Agreed, but you could say that about anything. Need that 70 inch tv? No, but it sure is nice to watch the game on. But I agree with you, people can spend their money on whatever they want, they just don't need to flaunt it or try to prove something.

Well having had an 07 LBZ and at first towing a decent amount I loved it. I towed a 28 foot enclosed with a car in it many times or a bobcat. now I don't tow as much so I'm getting a 6.0. Cost wise my 07 has only had 4 glow plugs done and i'm at 130K. Other then regular oil changes and fuel filter changes it has needed nothing (Leaking Transmission lines are another story). I've had it chipped since 10k miles as well. mostly ran it on 85hp tune, but a few times bumped it to 120 and fried the tires. For me it wasn't a status symbol, but more of a I can race your mustang in this 3/4ton truck and beat you which I have done many times. However buying a fuel filter every other oil change and 10qts of oil have gotten old along with the higher price of diesel. I'm also sick of firing the truck up and letting it warm up/cool down as well. Sometimes I just want to jump in run to the store and run back home and not have it take a half hour. Some people do this without letting it warm up or cool down, but I don't care what others say that is the worst thing you can do to a diesel. (seeing guys come off the highway pulling whatever and coming up to a fuel pump and just shutting it off makes me cringe every time. That turbo oil is just baking in there) So long rambling story short. I'm switching to gas for the ease of use. I can still tow my trailers and things just fine, but also serve as a personal truck for the quick run up to the store and not have to let it idle while I'm in the store or before I shut it down.

For work we have always purchased our HD's with the 6.0 due to upfront costs. The 6.0 has been bullet proof and served us very well....We have gone through a few tranny's with 2011 DRW's but have yet to blow a motor, 6.0 is VERY durable. We also have one 2005 LLY that is almost at 500,000 miles and is all original (including the tranny). This truck has towed for 2/3 of the miles and is fitted with a plow and has been awesome as well. It has never been left idleling to cool turbo's down and maybe that should have been a mandate but its hard to argue the mileage, still runs like new.

I currently have a 2015 3500 Duramax and love it. I drive about 10 miles each way to work and have a plow mounted on it. I traded to this from a 2011 LML Duramax that I also short commuted and plowed with. Have had no issues with either truck and never have had emissions issues going back to my 07 LMM. I have a few larger trailers I tow from time to time but probably don't "need" the diesel, just my preference...Doesn't make me better than anyone else :)
