$31 later and I have factory cruise control.

After 4 stealerships told me it was never an option from GM and the only possible way to do it was with an aftermarket cruise control kit, I went ahead and bought a turn signal stalk w/ cruise from Ebay ($31 shipped). I pulled the column apart, swapped the stalk, plugged in the new 4 pin connector to the existing harness (that my truck already had). Got on the road, hit "Set", green light on the dash came on and the truck started pulling.

Let that be a lesson to everyone, what ever the dealership service department tells you, automatically assume it is the complete opposite.

For reference, my truck is a 2003 GMC 2500HD, 6.0L, 5 speed manual transmission, regular cab 8' bed base model with the WT package (downgrade).

Only bad thing to doing this is complaining about not having cruise control for 6 months before spending the $31.

Damn that's cheap! I looked into this on my 2003 back when I had it and the stalk was like $200+.

If only the current truck was that simple ...

Makes some sense - GM didn't want the lower WT to have Cruise to UP Sell to the more $$ truck - but whe wire harness was the same - and you figured it out ... good job

Driving a 2012 Sierra SLE 2500HD. I have added factory Fog lights, DIC switch, and a new steering wheel to equipped with radio controls. All, were factory kits or parts and easy to install. All function as factory installed units and were plug and play.

Drove a 2003 Sierra SLT 1500 prior to this one and loved it. I bought it with 60k miles and it had over 160k when I sold it. It was still running strong. Only issue was the valve train tick when it was first started, but that went away after a minute or so.

GMC makes great trucks, just wish they would get better mileage.

Enjoy you ride and your cruise control!
