Why one vs other??

this is my first real full sized pick ( had ford ranger as second vehicle years ago). i looked at GMC first, actually went look at Yukon, looked the Sierra when i was there. I think the salesman struck out cause he showed me a work truck version and i was completely unimpressed and walked away. i was in the area of a familiar chevy dealer and took at look and i was shown the truck that i ended up buying. being kinda new the truck market im completely satisfied with the chevy. some of things i wish were available or i would want arent available on the gmcs or chevys regardless. my advice is go with what u like and where the better deal is.

Got the silverado cause of the resemblance of the 97 2500 I had. Also a silverado is a more no frills brand IMO Which I like.

I was looking at either the High Country or the Deanli. The front end of the GMC is what made the choice for me.

Good news, both Silvy and Sierra sales are up over last years.

2014 to 2015, March YTD:

Silvy up 17%

Sierra up only 7%

What surprises me is the almighty f-150 is only up 2%. I figured with their huge discounts of the 2014s and the hype of the 2015s, their sales would have increased over 10%.

And to Rams commercial about the fastest growing, looks like their steam is running out, up almost 5%.

I was GMC over Chevy for a long time. Even when it was just a grille and badges. My 2004 2500hd was the best GMC look ever (GMT-800). I HATED the Avalanche nose slap on 2003. And I had one too (2006). Best GMT-800 Chevy was 2001-2002 HD. When the GMT-900 hit, I was kind of split really...didn't care for the GMC or the Chevy. K2 is where it became Chevy over GMC. Hence why I have one!

They're very similar, but it all comes down to personal preference/taste. If you want to factor in outside perception, there is NO question that GMC is the more upscale brand, Chevy is the more basic, no frills, "sport" brand (hence why they had a TBSS while GMC offered the Envoy Denali) Now they finally have the high country, but it is not a Denali.

The Denali is always going to attract more attention, demand more $$$, have better resale, etc. etc etc

Now you could argue the high country satisfies that niche...but I would argue that's not truly the case, the Denali is still a higher tier. It goes for all shared platforms as well, not just trucks. Compare a Yukon Denali to a Chevy Tahoe LTZ - no one would argue the Denali is hands down the nicer vehicle. Compare a Traverse LTZ to an Acadia Denali or SLT - there is no comparison. Compare a Traverse to a Terrain Denali, again - there is no comparison.

I'm not saying the additional cost is always justified, but the difference in perception/resale value is there and it is real between the 2.

Side questions you guys in the states have separate dealerships for gmcs and chevys?

To answer the original questions I prefer the GMC over the chevy I think it looks more truck like.

Some do both, but some do just chevy and others do GMC and Buick. Not every dealer around here sells both GMC and Chevy.

My first car was a 1981 Pontiac Trans Am. Camaro was considered cooler at the time. And I then experienced my first stint of buyers remorse. My second car was a 66 Mustang with a straight 6 in it. I thought it was kool but both my brother's owned Chevy trucks and the fight was on. Secretly I had buyers remorse. Years laters I purchased a 2001 Mustang GT and she was outgunned buy her arch enemy the Z28. Not long after I dumped my GT and purchased my LT1 and have been a Chevy man since. Not surprised that now that Im a Chevy man and purchased my first chevy truck that she is considered by some people as inferior to Ford. Yeah ok.

Oh wait I didnt answer your question.

The reason I went Silverado over Sierra was because I always wanted to own a Chevy Silverado and In my opinion the Silverado from grill looks much more aggressive then the Sierra. Also Im not a fan of all the trim the Sierra carries.
