Cold air when set to 60, but blows warm when AC button is pressed

Recommended Posts

I had a problem with hot air coming out on my 04 Yukon XL...

I also have rear air and it would be blowing cold while the front air was blowing hot so I knew it wasn't a compressor or freon problem.

It turned out to be the Blend Door Actuator.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing this replacement.

If I recall correctly, the 2003 model year, being the first year of mid-generation upgrade, had a climate control system different from the years following it. In my '03 the A/C was on when the snowflake on the display WAS NOT illuminated, and off when the snowflake was.

If you compare it to 04-07 you'll notice that the snowflake has a little line through it, where the newer ones just had a snowflake.

That is sort of strange, I have an 03 and it blows pretty darn cold when the snowflake is illuminated. Unless they had a split year where that changed partway through the year.

So just a simple misunderstanding of the illuminated indicator/button as to what is "ON" and what is "OFF"...

Essentially, yes. I had the same debate with my cousin when he bought his '05 2500 HD. He was used to seeing the indicator off on my truck, but his stayed on.

Here's a really simple test of what you have:

1. Turn off HVAC system.

2. Press the "snowflake" button to activate the A/C.

The A/C is now on, so whatever emblem is illuminated/not illuminated is what you go by.
