They are predicting the price of gas to drop quite a bit in the fall so that should boost truck sales...

it took a lot of money down and great credit. it is pretty awesome. can't wrap my head around 1500+ mortgage. just not worth it to me.

I've had a $3500 mortgage for the past 20 years. Looking forward to when that ends in a few years...then I can retire.

As for moving this to the "off-topic" forum, I would have, but this is turning into a comparison with the GM trucks. I think that's valuable to K2 owners and would be K2 owners. Opinions are always valued. They become more valuable when supported by real information for others. Thanks for keeping this clean and objective.

A buddy of mine asked a salesman at a local Chevy dealer how anyone affords the new Suburban and Tahoe and the gus said basically that most people just lease them. That's not very financially wise if you ask me.

Sometimes leasing is the financially wise thing to do. I highly doubt that Is that the case in for "mose people" though.

just looked at a loan calculator, loaded tahoe is 71k, and if you finance 65k for 75 months at 2.9 your pmt is $950/month. that is crazy. almost double my mortgage!!!!!!

Is your mortgage a 6.25 year mortgage as well?

nope. obviously not. standard fixed 30 year. if it was a 6.25 year mortgage it would be $1,766. i considered a shorter term but decided to have the ultra low pmt instead as my wife and i were starting a family. plus our value is just climbing so i am not too concerned about the money lost on the interest. i've spent roughly $30k in interest with the minimum pmt over 7 years but my value has increased roughly $60k, plus i have had the spare money to enjoy life!!

now back on topic!!

I know, I haven't posted on here yet. I have been reading and learning for the last 3 months, but had to share.

Also, I know this is an article on the new ford f-150. However, the first thing I thought when I saw this, was it looks and feels a lot like my 1500 Sierra.

What do you guys think?

That truck looks very similar to the new Tundra. Only difference is the badge on the grille, either way they are both ugly!

Any leased vehicle is a terrible decision. you are paying just a few dollars cheaper than buying outright most of the time. For that $50-$100 a month less, you get a vehicle that you are told how much you can drive, really can't modify the thing because you are giving it back, no customizing of anything and if you do, it's a total waste of money. The vehicle lease program is one of the largest and longest running scams ever. I still can't figure out why anybody in the right mind would want to lease a vehicle and agree to their terms or pay a penalty. You are basically paying for a vehicle that is never going to be yours. In the end, you waste thousands of dollars and have nothing to show, not a wise decision.

Have to remember the mileage maximums on a lease too. Can't lease stuff if you drive a lot.

I have a family friend that buys new Yukon XL's every 5 years since the mid 90's (used to buy Suburbans.) He was getting ready to trade in his 2010 on a new one but it blew his mind how much they've increased in the past 5-6 years. His 2WD SLT model cost $45k MSRP and he got it for right at $40k when he bought it new. That same package now starts at $60k and there aren't many deals running on them. Dealer said they could come off a couple thousand but thats it! So from $40k to $60k in about five years. Even if he went to the SLE and had to cut his trim then it would still be a $11k increase without many rebates.

I find that the trucks are a bit more reasonable than the SUVs.

MSRP changed drastically on all vehicles when the gov't printed money & dropped interest rates to nothing. Auto loans for good credit ten years or so ago was 5-8+% APR. Now they are around 2+% give or take(& there are a ton of variables). Point is, they are going to get their money one way or another as the mfg's have or used to all have finance arms in their business model. Then there is all the new requirements mfg's have to meet from CAFE, crash testing etc. Would also assume there is a price point equation for wanting to sell full size trucks/suv's vs deterring buyers to cross overs or cars to also aid in meeting over all company cafe regs.

When the words any, always, and other absolutes are thrown around I tend to cringe. I've leased several vehicles and I've always come out ahead of the game. I've seen lots of people get into bad deals on leases paying 10-20 a month less to lease for 36 months when they could pay for a 72 month buy. Its great to never have maintenance expense and drive the latest greatest vehicle it's also a great way to try out different vehicles with no long term commitment. You don't waste any money you pay for exactly the amount of the deprecation of the vehicle for the period of time you own it. I guess you don't know a whole lot about leasing, I'd suggest gaining a little more knowledge before making statements acting as an expert.

It is INSANE what they charge for a fullsize GM SUV. I'd really prefer to drive a suburban or tahoe but, I can't afford one!

I ran into the same thing, I was looking to trade my P/U for a GM SUV. The same dealer that sold me my truck sells Hyundais. I bought a loaded Santa Fe that's quicker, gets much better gas mileage, seats 7, and has a killer warranty. I drove it out for 32K. My wife drives a Geneses, my daughter drives our 10year old Elantra. I was GM all the way, I can't bring myself to pay that kind of money for GMs SUVs, especially since iv had such good luck with Hyundai. I only have my old Chevy truck left, my GM days my soon be over.

I'm curious to see what he ends up doing. I think its almost a spite situation for him now, not that he couldn't afford one. One thing GM doesn't have is competition in the market on those full size SUVs. There isn't much like a Suburban or Yukon XL out there.

You're right on the competition piece, the Expedition EL is pretty much the only other thing out there.

I love all the options available for the f150 but I really don't like the look of it and esp the interior. Hate the shifter in the console. Why can't gm with denali add some more options, I was expecting more with 2016 but it was just a shit show.

Not sure I would spent 70k for a truck but this paragraph sums it up for me. Seems now like the "Denali is just some leather and badges tacked on"

For that kind of money (that’s Maserati Ghibli, Range Rover Sport, Tesla Model S, and Mercedes-Benz CLS territory), the F-150 Limited is more than some leather and badges tacked onto a Ford. For your money, you get essentially every option the F-150 has to offer, including the Sync3 infotainment system, 10-way adjustable massaging leather seats, off-road friendly 360 degree camera system, blind-spot warning, power side steps, and a panoramic roof. Exclusive to the truck are unique 22-inch chrome wheels, exotic fiddleback eucalyptus wood accents, and a unique front-end and tailgate treatment.
