OEM Projector Headlights are they worth the upgrade

Recommended Posts

Been thinking about switching my LT headlights over to oem projector are their any gains or would I be messing up by going to them? I wouldn't be doing HID's right away main concerns are killing my low beam output or would it be better with the projectors

I was very disappointed with halogens in factory projectors. My wife's 2010 terrain had this setup too, also horrible. If you are going to the trouble of removing the grill to pull out the housings, you should do HID at the same time.

Be aware that with HID bulbs may require you to extend the rear housing cap to clear the back of the bulb. Depends on the bulb type. If the bulb has a connector on the back you will probably need extended caps. One forum member has a 3d design on shape ways.com. Pricey at $81 each but they look nice. I'm planning on replacing my homemade modified caps with the printed ones at some point.

If you use a real D2S bulbs instead of the cheap rebased bulbs then you do not need to modify the dust caps at all.

Reading the comments in other threads, I think the GMC dust caps are different from the ones on the Silverado. I was under the impression that the GMC caps are a circular dish where the Chevy caps are a flat plate with a raised box section in the center.

My TRS Morimoto kit has a wire harness connector on the back of the bulb and when plugged in kept the caps from fitting by about a 1/8"-1/4".

Might be wrong post but need help...2014 gmc slt. I paint inside of my headlight one turned out great other had to redo due to couple Knicks in paint tool paint thinner to it and it ruined chrome housing so need new housing.

So my question is I found a SLE light for cheaper (just need the big chrome piece) and how sle have chrome slots on top n bottom and not clear like slt can you pop those chrome pieces out like you can the clears?

Thanks

If you're getting LTZ housings to do a infiniti FX projector upgrade then yes very much worth it.

Just running LTZs with plug and play HIDS is only a minor upgrade.

for those that say nah. are letting their eyes fools them.

I highly recommend doing some read up on HIDplanet.com

I should have been more clear, I was referring to the GMC caps. I haven't messed with a Chevy setup. And now reading the OP again it looks like he has the chevy so just ignore me lol.

Well wasn't planning on HIDs right away so would I be wasting my time and money to swap them unless i upgrade them to HIDs before installing them

I can't say it's not a good idea at this point. I was satisfied with the performance of my projector halogens from the factory.

I meant to say it's more of a linear move. Ive heard that the stock square reflector lamps are good from members here.

You'd be throwing your money away. Retrofit or leave it alone. The LTZ projector is not very good.
