Radio not video..

Anyone else tried to talk to Gm about the terrible myli k system? I was told today my truck doesn't have nav and I must pay onstar for it. Also the radio is just a radio and should not ever read pictures from the sd card reader have to buy another system to link it to. I am thinking about ripping this out of my truck and rewiring the whole damn thing so I can use it to check my deer camera sd cards and if my wife wants to watch something while I drive she can. NO I WON'T BE WATCHING AND DRIVING, I have a plan to hook it to the passenger pressure sensor. Just really upset with GM once again with this truck. I will not buy another gm I'll go buy a used Ford or Dodge before I let my wife talk me into a gimmicked out truck that has to have subs to get anything to work!

You didn't know that your truck wasn't equipped with Nav? It is on the sticker and invoice. As for watching video when driving, I am not sure that is possible (or legal in the front) but i am sure someone has figured it out in the aftermarket.

This isn't really a GM issue... You bought a truck that wasn't equipped with options you wanted. You should have done your research better before purchase. If the sales person says it has nav, get them to show it to you. Not every vehicle with the 8" screen has nav so that's on you unfortunately, not GM.

There is a recent post where another member removed his screen an installed an ipad mini in the dash but still retained most of the mylink features

I like the MyLink/Intellilink System. :dunno:

I too, like my mylink system. My only (minor)gripe is that i cant read text messages while driving. I understand the reasoning in this as its distracting. however, is it not just as distracting to have 2 video displays that u can access while driving? I mean, my bluetooth music is allowed which is pretty in depth along with pandora, and u can scroll through all of the real time info on the cluster. I like that u can listen to the texts tho even if the girl reading them cant pronounce half the content lol

No I was told and it says Nav on my window sticker so Nav it should have. Not just onstar crap.[emoji35]

Glad you like the limited system. Be the last gm ever in my house.

ok, either you need to read the owners manual or maybe find someone who know technology better than you to show you how to use the Infotainment system. It is really easy to see if you have NAV and not the OnStar NAV. Hit the home button, if you have the NAV option on the screen then you have the NAV system that is built into the Infotainment system.

Anyone can use the OnStar NAV feature, as long as you pay OnStar for their services.

As far as video in motion, GM can not and will not offer it nor will any other manufacture as it is illegal on the federal level and at almost all state levels to have moving video in view of the driver while the vehicle is in motion. You can send off some parts to get the video in motion feature added to your HMI module, it is not cheap and even if you say only your wife will be watching it the police can still pull you over and ticket you for it being in the drivers viewing range.

Good luck ripping anything out, all of the modules for the radio and HVAC system all run thru the Infotainment module. Will take some custom work and programming to make it work.

Somebody needs to lay off the needle... just saying.

Whatever gave you the idea that it would play videos or show pictures? It's only called a radio, not a media center.

Before spending all that money on ripping the factory stuff out to watch pics and video, just buy a cheap Samsung tablet for $200 and store it in your console. And you can add factory nav very easily. GM sells a kit on their accessory page that just plugs into the radio and factory nav is fully functional. There are also aftermarket kits for cheaper. For even more money you can even get video and picture capability.

But, judging by your tone, I doubt that anything will make you happy. FYI, no other OEM offers what you want either.

It's simple enough to have checked it and if your salesman says it has it, how hard is it to say, "ok, show me." My salesman went over all the options with me and showed me how to use pretty much everything and any good salesman would go through this with their customer. As stated, the NAV system is right on the home screen. If it says it on the sticker I'd be taking it back to the dealer but make sure it doesn't say On-Star NAV. An oversight on your part is no reason to rip apart a perfectly good truck. Do your research next time.

That guy did a great job with it too, I didn't like covering up the factory screen though. It looks like the wasted space in front of the outlets would be a more practical spot for this type of setup.
