Dead battery

When I went to one of the dealer to first look at the new GMC planning on buying one that day, the truck I was looking at didn't start and needed a boost already. So walked away from it then. Few months after decided to take a chance and go get one anyways and I work out of town and it's parked between 2 to 3 weeks at the time and has starts no problems. I used to drive a 2010 Silverado few years back and had it with me when working in Cold Lake AB and with the temperatures up there I had to change battery in it too. So on your side with that one.

My condolences for being here lol... at least in the winter because it's brutal. It's almost always colder than anywhere else in the province. My vehicles sit in heated buildings overnight but not during the day if I am driving obviously. I really don't know what the issue was but it was just Delco after Delco. My 09 2500hds battery didn't make a year and failed load test, my 06 before that had dual batteries and at 2 years they were junk. Then take like my old 92 Chevy... I bought it with the original battery and it was 7 years old and I think it went another 3 before it finally quit. So 10 years give or take. I have owned plenty of other trucks not GM and had no battery issues short of that Ford that had electrical problems. Trust me... you dump a truck because in 8 hours time it will kill the battery stone dead as one of its headaches and your new one is dead in 6 days of non use... it makes you worry!

Understand that. Never had battery problems with a GM other than that 2010 Silverado but had draw problems so not a bad battery there either. Now just throwing this out there but been told few time that going from hot to cold all the time can be hard on a battery. In your case going from let's say +10 C to -40 C and vice versa few times a day could take its toll.

True. But it's unacceptable as anything I drive sees the same conditions. My shoddy John Deere garden tractor can sit in the cold all winter with the battery in it and has been going strong for 5 or 6 years now. This new truck hasn't seen cold yet so I don't know what its problem is. I have to get my clamp meter and I will test amp draw when it's parked. I am betting it's next to nothing though and not the issue... or at least I hope so as I don't want this draw chasing game again.

What I don't understand is if it's a Delco issue, why aren't there all kinds of others from cold areas complaining about delco batteries on this or any of the other GM truck forums I follow.

When I typed it in to do a search last night the issue popped up on quite a few GM forums. I don't see that the batteries being junk is all that rare. Even guys here saying 2 years or something is pathetic.... This battery hasn't seen anything cold...truck was built in the summer lol. I don't think temperature plays much of a factor unless you discharge it and freeze it.

I'm good, don't worry about it lol. I will swap the battery out and move on. I don't really care unless the truck itself becomes an electrical catastrophe which I doubt it will.

It has been 32 for the last 3 days in NY. Had to jump my 2016 sierra 4 times. Charged it for 4 hrs at 10 amp setting last night. Went out this morning and it was 18 degrees and the battery was only 4.5 volt.below

Optima Red Top has some great reviews have you tried one of those yet? I drive my truck several times a week so have had no problems with a dead battery but I had bought my wife a new car about 2 years ago that she rarely drives and the dealership has replaced the battery twice under warranty. They claim that it does not get driven enough to keep the battery charged up! I bought a battery tender and keep it on it now and have had no problems in the last year or so. Almost all newer vehicles have some parasitic battery draw from the security system........

Tell me about it! I only had to jump 2x, but that is all it took for me to take out the stock AC Delco and replace it with an one i bought from autozone with a 3yr warranty. It's also got slightly higher CCA rating. I also made sure to call my dealer and mention the cold start TSB (bad starter) and the recent grounding issues causing the "steering wheel jerk". They confirmed both apply to my vehicle and that he would add it to my file. I was just in for service last week.

I sure hope you folks are charging the battery properly after having jumped it and not relying on the alternator to charge the battery.

I had to have my battery replaced under warranty after the first year I owned my 2015. It's not uncommon for vehicles on a dealer lot to have to be jumped multiple times because of either sitting for a long time or someone leaving some sort of light on from looking at it or moving it. My 2012 Ford I owned before this I also had to get the battery replaced after a year.

My 2015 battery went click click this morning. Onstar jumped me. I went to auto parts store. Wow $200 battery. He put a machine to check it and said it had a draw so it probably wasn't the battery.

Went to dealer and dropped off. They checked and said battery. Picked it up and drove back to parts house and swapped battery. Back up and running.

Tommorow morning will tell. Asked parts store to hold my old just in case.
