New GM NAVI Maps

GMC-AT

I see this update covers both my 15 Silverado and my wife's 14 SRX. Any chance one purchase would allow me to install on 2 vehicles? GM probably corrupts the USB drive after the install. Maybe I could back up the USB before installing.

"Please note this USB will be created specifically for your vehicle and can not be used for any other vehicle. In order to customize your USB product, you will be required to provide your vehicle's VIN. For instructions on where to locate your vehicle's VIN, please click here."

I would say not with this message they have on the website

As disappointed as I am that my deal on a new '15 Denali just fell through, the one thing I am looking forward to on the '16 I'm about to order is the Android Auto/Apple Car Play compatibility. I think it's borderline criminal that GM still charges anything, let alone this much, for map updates.

But yes, if it's the same as our old Yukon, it's a VIN specific update.

I agree on charging. $160 for one upgrade is crazy.

Coming from Garmin in-dash, I am disappointed with the navigation. Rarely does anything I search for, pop up. Always have to put in the address rather the business.

I have been using google maps to search for address, copy and paste into the RemoteLink app to send in-car nav. Works pretty solid so far. I hope this feature will continue to work when I run out of data plan for my truck

Did anyone get this new 2016 map? Not sure it's worth the $160. Anyway.. do you just plug in the USB and it does everything for you?

To answer the OP's question, YES, it installs itself. Just insert the USB and leave the Nav on for a while. It does the rest. If I remember right, it took about 15 minutes.

In using RemoteLink, it does not use your data plan, but it does require an active OnStar account. You can also use the RemoteLink Mobile app to search for addresses or use MapQuest. See below from OnStar...

"You must have the Directions & Connections Plan, the OnStar RemoteLink® mobile app and an eligible vehicle to use the location search functionality. Don't have the Directions & Connections plan? Upgrade your account now."

They also have eNav to download to your truck' Nav system...

"OnStar eNav4 lets you send destinations from MapQuest to your OnStar system or built-in navigation screen (with vehicles equipped with OnStar Destination Download). OnStar eNav is available at no additional cost to all OnStar subscribers with an active Directions & Connections Plan."

Yes, unless they don't count it separately on the newer version of the RemoteLink Map service. I would wait and see. You can always add it back.

I have just the free basic plan on my truck. The trial expired last month and still have access to the remote link "map" and can send it to my truck nav unit. Pretty stupid I can't use the "vehicle status but what ever

Current Plan: Basic Plan

Diagnostics Report, Unlock/Lock Doors, Remote Horn & Lights, On-Demand Diagnostics, Remote Start/Stop, Diagnostic Alerts, and Proactive Alerts

Your plan gives you limited access to OnStar services. Upgrade and experience everything OnStar can offer.

Paid through 3/5/20

I dont even use the in dash nav anymore. Bluetooth directions from google maps on my iPhone is 10x better.

It's expensive but my Lexus navigation upgrades were around $250 from what I remember

If you have basic plan, I dont see why you cant use the vehicle status page as Diagnostics Report does the same. Good to know that even basic plan covers the nav sending though.

In dash is nice that the direction shows up in the gauge cluster display for the distance of the turn. Bigger screen in the center is easier to see with no glare during daytime
