Pic Request for 275/60/20 vs 275/65/20 BFG KO2

After a few weeks of having my 275/65-20s, I've noticed a drop in my mpg by about 2. I didn't lose any when I leveled it or when I removed my air dam, but the tires did it. I did notice that before I installed the tires my truck went into V4 mode a lot, mostly because how I drive. But now it almost never goes into V4 mode. I think having more weight and size causes the engine to be under more load preventing V4. Even when going down a hill and with me letting of the gas it doesn't seem to want to go into V4. I'm still glad I went with this size, i love the way it looks. Just something for future buyers to think about.

 

I wonder if there's something that can be calibrated with the tranny or ecu to change that.

I am going with Nitto Terra Grappler G2 275/60/20 they weigh 41 lbs. Very sexy tire

I like the look of these definitely similar to the BFG's, but where do you see the weight listed? I do see they come in 275/65/20 and these will def be on my short list.Really coming down to these, BFG KO2's, and Terra grappler G2

 

Actually found it - Toyo open country AT2's in 275/60/20 weigh in @ 43.4 lbs while the 275/65/20 is an E rated LT tire and the weight jumps way up to 56.7 lbs.....I really want a 275/65 but don't want that penalty of lower mpg's/performance....need to find a an AT tire that weighs under 50 lbs in 275/65/20 not E rated...possible/??

 

To TIG488 - do you have 5.3 or 6.2? What gearing? I would expect adding nearly 20lbs unsprung weight to each corner is going to have an effect

Go with Terra Grappler G2 275/60/20. They weigh 41 lbs. Very sexy tire it's also a 33" tire.

I like the look and run nitto NT05 street drag radials on my Vette- great bang for the buck rubber, but I really want a full 1" of height so 275/65/20 is what I'm after I can't seem to find a rugged looking/performing tire in that size under 50 lbs- I thought the toyo open country AT fit the bill come to find out the "best looking" version they always show is the "extreme" and doesn't come in 275/65 or 275/60

 

I may go w/ the G2s in 275/60 as you suggest since it seems that's the only option, and the price is nice compared to others, but I imagine they're pretty soft and will wear fast. My consolation is I run snow tires for 3-4 months of the year and splitting up the mileage like that really extends the life of the tire

I live in Colorado and I've been doing the same thing your doing. I finally decided on G2 in a the 275/70/20 for weight looks and snow performer. I'm order in a set of ck158 wheels in a 20" to put the tires on. Good luck and send pics after you find the right one.

Will probably end up w/ the Nitto G2's 275/60 - but won't be running in the winter/snow. I am sure they'd be OK (def better than the Wrangler SRA's), but I run snow tires/wheels in the winter (see pic) Michelin X-Ice 275/55r20 - can't beat a dedicated winter/snow tire.

I just had my 275/60R20 KO2's installed yesterday on my truck. Absolutely love them. Quiet as the SRA's and I really can't tell much of a difference in handling on pavement. Hopefully I'll be able to take some pics this weekend and post them up.

 

I have Bilstein 5100's installed on the max setting and I don't think I could have gone 275/65R20 without some rubbing.
