need advise NOW!!! looking at '99 3500 diesel

hey guys.  long time, no talk.  for those of you who remember me, i may have figured out a solution to that POS control module for my '94.

anyway, i ran across a reasonable deal for a '99.  this is a commercial truck, it came as a cab and chassis but it's not the HD model with the solid axle front end.  it's real high mileage for a '99, 150k and, unfortunately those are probably all city miles   the guy is asking $6500 and i'm thinking of offering $5500 and maybe meeting somewhere in the middle.

before i do, i need to know if this engine is as crappy as the one i've been fighting for the last two years.  if it's a better model, then i'm not too scared of the mileage.  he has said he wouldn't mind if i had it checked out by a local shop so that comforts me somewhat.  i know it's not a duramax but i also hope it's not this same 6.5 turbo 'die'sel like mine.

what do you guys think?

Price is good but it is the same o 6.5. I looked at NADA.com and there is a $4000 loss on the milage but still put it in the $7000 range on value on a base model regular cab.

Good luck..

thanks, guys.  it's kind of depressing to me considering how many problems i have had/do have with this truck.  it may end up being a dead end anyway since i may not be able to scrape together the cash.  you can bet if i do, i'm modifying that module.  no more of that B.S.
