Toughest Front End Crash Protection - 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Greetings:

 

On the subject of front end crash protection, what would provide the best protection from vehicles hitting the front end of my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500?

 

Who makes the best Bull Bar Push Bars or Crash Bars in this regard?

 

I've seen and searched for a bunch of them, just want to hear your opinions.

 

I don't plan on any altercations, but if someone hits me or I hit them, what would be the best protection for the Front End?

 

My truck is black, an SLT with a chrome bumper, and I want to keep it low profile.

A buddy of mine showed me a picture the other day of a road armor bumper on a super duty that hit a tree head on. They were going 30mph plus when it happened. The road amour bumper was dented in right where the tree hit, not super terrible like shearing metal or anything, it all stayed together and protected the truck. When they took it off of the truck the truck had no damage behind it. The bumper took the entire impact very well and still looked usable after if you were able to get the dent out. Very impressive.

If you're just trying to protect your truck from minor impacts a beefy bumper is a great option. But if you are more worried about passenger safety I wouldn't change to something as extreme as the road armor bumper, modern bumpers and vehicles are designed to absorb energy with things like crumple zones to reduce the rate acceleration (or deceleration) that is passed on to passengers thus reducing internal injuries.

 

Now that being said for the majority of accidents whether a rear ender or most collisions in an urban setting (relatively low speed) these safety features are not necessary and a bumper or push bar could save you some money at the autobody. Plus they look pretty sweet.

I am a fan of the Setina PB400. You see them on most police vehicles and they make a version for our trucks. The aluminum version is very light and very strong. I picked one up right from the Setina manufacturing plant and installed it on my 09. I took it off when I traded my truck in for my 2015. Somebody is buying a used truck with an absolutely ding free front end! Next time I head south in my new truck I will be purchasing a new one. Some people don't like the look but I love the look and the added convenience of being able to step on it to check my oil and wash my hood!

Must have rocked the passengers pretty good. If the force isn't hitting crush zones, it's being passed along somewhere else.

A welder friend of mine had an accident with his then new 1975 Ford F100 with his custom fabricated 6" steel bumpers. You couldn't readily see the damage until you tried opening the doors!

I'm looking to protect the front end from the typical 15-20 mph low speed "I was on my cell phone. Sorry!" collision. I want THEM to pay, not me.

 

 

I'm not looking to survive a 70mph full frontal crash.

I agree. It was the low speed stuff like signs at the end of parking stalls that prompted me to get the Setina. Also, deer running out in front of you is a problem where I live. The big iron cross type steel bumpers look cool but I want my front end to crumple and absorb much of the impact of a major crash.
