Have a 4.8 want a 5.3

Does anyone know how much trouble it would be to take out a 4.8 and put in a 5.3 as far as what year models will work and would I have to change the computer?

Well, it would be nice to know what year truck your talking about.

Need more info on what you have to reference what you can use. As a general rule, a 5.3 of the same year model will drop right into your existing engine bay. The computer will work but will require a new tune for the increased engine size.

I'm sorry for not saying what year the truck is. Thanks for the replies. The truck is a 2005 Silverado.

You would need a 5.3L engine from the same year or same generation engine if you want to do it without spending a boat load of cash.

Sounds like I will probably stay with a 4.8 if its that much trouble. I don't know anything or anyone that knows about the computer end of this conversion. Thanks for the help.

The 5.3 will run on the 4.8 tune. But it'll need to be tuned. No computer swap necessary. On a swap difficulty scale it's a 2 out of 10.

 

You want a gen3 motor. If the throttle body is the same, you wouldn't even have to swap intake manifolds.

Buy a different truck with the 5.3 and be done with it imo. And make sure it comes with the 3.73 diff gears.
