I am curious if the android play upgrade fixes any other bugs in the infotainment system? Is there an official release regarding what all it updates/fixes?

Thanks!

The TSB only mentions adding Android Auto but I think it does flash an update for the entire infotainment system. Might just be me but some of the swiping gestures on the Intelilink screens seem much smoother - for example pulling the favorites bar up from the bottom or swiping to the second page of the home screen.

The other thing I noticed is that the beeping for the parking sensors is considerably quieter, I can barely hear them going off now.

These are the software versions my radio shows after the update:

Software - 84089010

Gracenote - 23199236

Map - 23346621

I noticed no other changes; just the Android Auto update. That's not to say other items weren't updated, I just haven't noticed anything.

Ironically, immediately after getting my Android Auto update, my Driver Assist system went wonky and said it needed serviced. I took it in, and they had to order a "module" for the Driver Assist, whatever that means. I take it in Monday to be fixed. My sensors now beep loudly, even though I have it set to vibrate!

Is this update automatic OTA?

That would be too easy and make too much sense, with the 4G connection in the trucks. Requires a dealer visit/install.

Is it free and how long does it take? Thanks

Haven't had it done yet to mine. There are other threads with people discussing their experience. Might be better now, but some were taking a few hours and multiple attempts. It is free for 2016 models. All sold after it was released in early March were supposed to have the update applied. I received an email from Chevy indicating it was free as long as it was applied before Dec 31.

Took about 45 minutes for mine. They said it all depends on how busy the GM servers are.

And how difficult the truck wants to be!! HAHA!! At least that is what I was told at my dealer when I asked how long it took, they said anywhere between 1/2 hour to 2 hours and how difficult it wants to be. I did the paperwork on my truck on Feb 29th and picked it up on March 9th and it was not applied, I had to take it back in to get the update.

The dealer told me they updated mine yesterday but I can't see any difference or make my phone do anything new. How do I make it work?

You need to have a phone that is running Android Lollipop and you'll need to install the Android Auto app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.projection.gearhead&hl=en).

Open the Android Auto app and plug your phone into a USB port. Press the Projection button on your radio screen (the projection button will change to the Android Auto icon when your phone is plugged in and detected). Once your phone and the radio connects you'll have on screen prompts on both your phone and radio to allow access and accept disclaimers.

If it's still not working try another micro USB cable (some of the cheaper cables are for charging only). There is also a setting to enable/disable Android Auto in the radio's settings, but I would think this should be enabled by default after getting the update. All of the USB ports will work but I've heard people talk about only being able to use the USB port in the glove box, this is probably due to the quality or length of the USB cable they are using.
