Internet service sucks

My internet service is sooooooo  sloooooooow and it boots me like 5 times a nite. I am looking for a dsl service that is from a satellite dish, but not too spendy. I can't get anything else where I live. Anyone have a system like this or know of one that isn't too expensive? Directv wants $600 for the dish and $60 a month!

Sprint has a satellite style service available that uses a dish and is on par and maybe a tad bit faster than DSL.  Availability may be your only issue as I don't know where you are.  Plus, you'll also need a clear line of site with the tower (in our case, the Sears Tower) in order for it to work.

The G/F was thinking about it for her internet service out in the NW suburbs as she can't hardwire anything into her condo.

directv is having "special" so to speak on their directway 2 way sat. after hardware is $399 ($699 normall), install is $199, then 59.99 a month. you have to get the install because the evil FCC says so being that its 2 way. which sucks, i was hoping it would be like dss where i could take it everywhere (which i do, have a dish in my trailer, and the signal finding meter)

Same boat as you, DSL not available except through a satellite dish.  Sixty bucks a month for internet?  I don't think so, I can put up with dialup for that, as that is what it costs for us too.  I guess I should feel lucky, it took several years after most people had the net that we were even able to get dialup service.

Yes, $60 is too much. I checked out those sites and some were even $70. It really sucks when city people can get DSL for $40 or under and now satellite is almost twice as much, plus the dish. Hopefully the price will come down in the future, most stuff does.

Do any of you guy's have cable TV, or are you on satelite?  If you've got cable, it's cheaper than the satelite.  We looked into getting it but we don't watch enough tv.

The cable companies refuse to run lines out from town to us since only three of us would be on it.

I actually wanted cable tv, but I can't get it out here yet. I ended up with directv. It works ok, but I like cable better.
