Finally found a rust free ( within reason) K5 up here that didn't have the asking price of a 3 year old truck. It's far from perfect but beyond the a/c everything in it works..... and it has the relatively uncommon 1990 and 1991 only power mirrors on it. The 350 in it is junk but that doesn't bother me one bit as I am LS swapping it anyway. It runs really nice..... and then smokes like freight train above about 3 grand lol.

Haha! Everyone seems to have a K2 these days.

I do too... but that section and it's incessant whining gets old. Nobody mods them beyond truck accessories so I am one of few there lol. But who cares about that lol.

Mine has a donor... my 86 Blazer. It's a rotten pile of junk that I spent a bunch of money in the axle department and then lift and front end parts. All will transfer to this bucket along with a resto of this truck. The axles have 4.56s with a Detroit locker in the back and Tru Trac in the front. It has the same rims and a set of 33's but I want a different rim and tire combo.... 33 is plenty big and the lift is about 4". It's a pavement queen... and I use it like a tractor to plow snow in the winter in my yard. An LQ9 with a set of ported heads, mild cam, gen iv intake and headers will do it nicely. I just need the cam... I have everything else already.

Cancer ridden parts bucket.. and before you say oh its not bad... it's not good either...

Plus the wiring is a mess and the interior is junk. The 90 has no rust... the interior is nice and it all works... and the wiring won't catch fire...

  • 2 months later...

Changed gears for the old Jimmy and I am moving forward..... stuff with me takes forever due to work and running a business.... so I am going to hire a bunch of it out. Infomall got me a donor transmission being a 4L60E from a 2001 Sierra.

It's a core but it's complete from torque converter to extension housing and it cost me a whopping $20. I have a local builder who has an 8 second turboed 6 liter S10 running his own built 60E.... He ranks up there with some of the best south of the border so it should be fine for me.

This is the engine.. ordered one yesterday.

Now I need to get the actual swap pieces coming... headers, mounts, some kind of e fan and rad setup, accessories, etc.
