Canadian 2014 GMC Sierra

Looking at purchasing a used 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 with an all terrain package. Found a good vehicle that was originally owned in Canada. I have not seen the vehicle in person yet but wanted to ask you all what I need to know going into this purchase as it is related to the vehicle having been purchased originally in Canada.

Warranty in the US?

Kilometers vs MPH?

Resale in the US?

Any difference in saftey/mpg/etc.?

Thanks in advance!

Gauge cluster can change to MPH using steering wheel control.

Go test drive a 2015 or 2016 sierra allterrain at the dealer, you will know if it is what you like. Interior didnt change much (2016 does not have cup holder removable)

Identical trucks made in the same factories.

Not sure on the warranty deal though, I know there were some issues with certain manufacturers when doing that, but best bet would be contact a GM rep. (Not a dealership)

Not exactly the same, the canadian ones are programmed to have DRL and night time driving lights on mandatory, most american ones (depending on province) can be turned off on demand. Just little things like that

Yes.

Well then I'm no help. What I learned is that most of the differences are labeling requirements for each country. I'd be curious about the warranty however. With all the Canadian trucks going across the border (to be sold) on a daily basis, hopefully someone will know.

I bought a 2014 Sierra All Terrain crew cab in February. Has 25k miles and is from Canada (I live in US). Before buying I took VIN off dealer website and registered it on Gmc website so I could look at remaining warranty etc. this was very helpful as it showed all of the warranty still available which also included the 2 year maintenance however it had a different name than in US. The dealer (small non GM affiliated dealer) also offered car fax so I could see the date they change from kh to miles. Since purchase I had headlight TSB performed fully under warranty with no issue. As someone mentioned, the only difference I have found is the inability to turn off DRL. The knob does not have an off option. Other than that no differences I can see or find. From my experience I would have no concern.

I've had warranty work done in the US on more than one of my 'Canadian' trucks, including this one. (one of the 'free' warranty oil changes and the Android auto update were done in the US over the winter)

Warranty should not be an issue.

Units can be easily changed back and for between US and metric in the DIC (I usually run mine displaying US units).

Since the printing on the speedo display is different. I believe that on a US truck needle straight up is 70mph. Canadian truck needle straight up is 120 kph. 100 . When the units are switched, the painting on the dial doesn't change, so straight up on a Cdn truck when set to US units becomes 120 mph. (not that it will go that fast)

Point is, is that when set to display US units, the speedo only uses about the first 1/4 or 1/3 of the dial, instead of 1/2 the dial. (needle doesn't move as far for each 10mph increase in speed)

Pretty much every Canadian unit also comes equipped with a block heater as well. It's just part of the standard options that the dealers order them with.
