WTF, how did that get in there

Looks like a bag of bird seed sitting on top of the cabin air filter. Of course i bought the truck used and i know i didnt put it there. Its not critter droppings as none of the seeds are shelled. How does it get there, defroster vents? Dont really want to pull apart the whole hvac system. Heard a few seeds bounce around the blower after vacuuming out as much as i could. Any other concerns i should have?

It appears your filter served it's purpose. Aside from vacuuming what you could I wouldn't be too worried. It appears as the filter caught most of it.

I'm pretty sure someone was being a dick and poured that into your vent outside so this would get sucked up. People suck!

Bag of bird seed on the dash that gets a hole and seed gets in the defrost vent. What seed the air is not able to move to filter will stay there unless removed by dismantling system. No big deal IMO. I have put in heater cores and found a wide variety of objects in the heating systems, coins, beads, paper clips, mouse poo, etc.

More than likely a critter was storing this snack for later. Chipmunks and Mice do this all the time. No worries, just replace it and set up some traps around the vehicle incase he's still living inside.

+1

Something raided a bird feeder and was making a new home. Check around the cowl screen under the hood and make sure a mouse didnt chew through the plastic mesh or there may be a big enough gap to squeeze through. Only way to get to the top side of the filter is through the cowl, defroster vents are on the other side of the filter. I read before that people had leaves fall into the motor after sliding the filter out so it may be pretty easy for a small critter to access through the cowl if leaves can get through - may not even be a screen on the intake...

Looks like the truck was moved before whatever it was made it into a home..

Thanks for the input. I will check the cowl for cracks etc. I didnt think that the def vents went into the intake side of the filter. The good news is, when the fan kicked in the morning it now vibrates the inside of the truck at higher speed. Hopefully the piece of seed that is causing the friction will break apart soon.
