Talk about "good timing GM"...lol

Last week I hit the 60.000km mark. Therefore, my bumper to bumper warranty is expired.

I can report that there were no problems with my truck. No cracked dash board. No vibrations. Nothing.
But at 60.063km the latch on the center console broke off. That takes some great engineering to make it last juuust past the warranty...lol.

The lid of the console comes in two pieces, screwed together. So I took out the screws but I had a hard time to separate it.

I looked on the i-net, whether I can find a exploded view drawing to see, if and where are the two pieces being held together.
This way I found out, that this is a common problem for the GMT900 (I think it's called: "normal, operating as designed").

Anyway, here a little informational video for the ones who have the same problem.

Maybe it can prevent you from breaking those little tabs.

So, today I went to my favorite GM dealership and asked for a latch for the center console.

The bad news is, that I can't buy a latch as a single part. But the whole lid for CAD 249,-.

The good news is, that I could buy a T-shirt with "Chevy Trucks" printed on it for 19.99. Or a cap. Or a key chain with the Chevy logo...

Have you checked with any local salvage yards if they had anything?

No, not yet. I'm gonna try the online-route first.

It just kinda bugs me, that it is apparently not a rare occurrence.

I mean why would someone offer the latch in the aftermarket and even shoot a video of how to replace it.

I get it that GM won't issue a recall for that matter.

But they could at least provide the spare parts.

I've had a few of those crack on me....I went with a replacement I found on ebay. It's a more durable plastic than the chincy OEM one and is holding up great. I would suggest searching ebay before paying high price for an OEM latch.
