First post here, was going through a gate this afternoon and turned right into a pole avoiding a dog... Do they just replace the bedside and paint? Sorry for the bad pictures... Just got back in. It is a 2015 Silverado LT, Z71.

Looks like crease goes up to the top. It could go either for repair or replace but looks like it needs replaced

Yeah there gonna give you a bed side for sure.. little advice to you or all.. unless it a human don't swerve out of the way. Some might disagree with me.. but look at the possibilities... what if someone was walking and next to that poll? What if you got hurt? Keep your head up. Pay your deductible.

Yup. That's what my insurance lady told us also. Hit a deer, zero deductible. Get fixed for free.

Swerve and crash, pay deductible and have a strike on your policy.

yeah, that damage is going to cost more than your deductible all day long. Time to make a visit to you insurance and get the paper work started.

If they replace the bedside...prolly $2-3k

If they fix whats there...maybe $1500-2k

Personally I don't like the what-if game, there is no end to it. I will not choose to hit a living thing unless there is literally no other option.

Freean01 did the right thing in my opinion. I would sure hope someone would make the effort to avoid running over my dog if she got loose. I love my truck but would rather total it than put a family through the anguish of losing a loved pet. Also, I have hit a deer and felt sick for weeks. I would rather hit a tree and pay for the damages any day!!

Agreed, you can't put a price on your conscience, easily worth the $500 deductible you will pay to make a claim. A life is worth more than a piece of metal any day of the week, especially if you have the option to make a choice on the matter. Since we're playing what if, imagine having to look 5 year old Timmy in the eye and tell him you ran over his dog. Thumbs up to the OP....sorry to hear about your truck.

That's why I said some will disagree. Me personally I was behind a driver 5 years ago and watched a guy dodge a great dane. And hit a 8 year old driving his bike on a sidewalk. Parents were on his side. Kid lost his leg cause of the dog. This is why I said what I said.. human life more important.

You are blowing this to the Nth degree. The OP was driving through a gate at what can be assumed a slower rate of speed. A dog may have stepped out off of the sidewalk or out into the road where the OP swereved scrapping the side of his truck into one of the polesof the gate. Hardly a life or death situation for the OP or any pedestirans in the area and hardly a reason to run over someones dog to save an innate object like your truck which can be repaired. Again the cost of the vet bill and the angst of the pet owner is not worth $500 to me, and i'd like to believe you. You're right it's your opinion, i hope you share your perspective from an extememe circumstance, not in an avoidable manner such as this.
