Navigation in 15 Sierra

Recommended Posts

My 15 Sierra came with the complimentary onstar for the first 6 months, and we uses that for navigation. Now that that is run out, is there anyway to get navigation in the truck?

android auto app or Iphone carplay app.....or you can spend $1000 on a navigation upgrade module.

I purchased the OEM navigation unit from MVI and am very happy with it. Frankly, I bought it just to be able to say I have it but, contrary to the consensus around here, I've found it to be a very good system relative to navigation. The routing logic is every bit as good as my Garmin unit. If you have the funds it is the way to go. It is integrated with the truck's information system, doesn't clutter up your dash or console and doesn't require a hot spot, phone, or data plan to function. I keep my Garmin in the console as a back up. To date, I've never needed to use it. If I didn't have the OEM system, my second choice would be the Garmin route.

I didn't extend my initial ONSTAR subscription and still have nav. I also can use the ONSTAR phone app and remote start, send directions to in dash nav, etc. This is free through ONSTAR for 3 years.

Use your phone or a Garmin. 100 times better and free.

I don't believe this is true. Using the remotelink app and sending to your dash is pretty awesome. I find it more convenient then using my phone (good maps etc)

Just wish they would update the "maps" in remotelink to find more places

I actually have never used the nav screen to find anything, maybe that is what you are referring?

Check out MVI. Android Auto can also be added and is similar to CarPlay.

No go for my 2015. GM says there were hardware upgrades on 2016 models.

This statement is not completely true. I did it to my 15. MVI sells you the modules to replace the ones in your current truck. They program them so your truck recognizes them exactly like a 16 model would and BAM! Android auto in a 14/15 model. Install is super easy and there customer service is great.

I can vouch for MVI. I purchased my navigation unit from them for my '15. The installation was a breeze. They aren't cheap but neither is their product and their customer service is second to none.

Ok. Checked out the website and I see what you guys are talking about now. That being said, with the prices listed, i'll stick to using my phone or Garmin

It all comes down to money. Adding factory nav vs garmin/phone.

Factory nav expect to pay $1k+. Garmin $100+. No brainier for me.

How much does the MVI car play addition run for my 2015?
