Updating Stock Wireless Charger 2016 Sierra Denali

Recommended Posts

I have an issue with the stock wireless charger working in my 2016 Sierra Denali. It won't work with my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and I have tested it on several 2016 GM trucks and SUVs with the same results. Yes the phone works with wireless chargers just not the GM provided version. I have read a couple of threads related to installations of wireless charging devices. Has anyone upgraded there OEM GM wireless charger with something different that is more powerful or actually works. Is there something out there to purchase that is plug and play with the OEM? Any help is truly appreciated.

I would consider a new phone, it's going to be a lot cheaper and easier.....plus your not hacking up your new truck

Do you have a case? I found my dad's '16 doesn't work with my sisters note because she has a case and the phone is so large it doesn't sit properly on the pad. Could be your issue.... If that's the case most wireless charger won't have enough range to overcome that.

good point.. I assumed he already knew that. But just in case... yes, be sure to test without case.

not sure he said the issue was the size of the charging pad.. but yes the Cadillac Escalade is bigger.

According to people in the thread I linked it is because the note 5 that he said he has will not fit in the charging pad, it HAS to fit perfectly flat on the pad or it will not charge at least in my case. My Galaxy S7 will not charge if I have my case on it as it doesn't sit on it perfectly flat, it is held up about 1/8" and will not charge, but once I take the case off it then sits flat on the pad and charges. If I pull up on one side the least bit it will stop charging.

Thanks for the feedback guys...I have tried with and without the case. My feeling is it is probably due to width of the charging pad area being so tight. Do you believe someone could switch out a console lid from an Escalade and it would fit the Sierra without modification. Definitely not wanting to hack up my new truck but would like the convenience the wireless charging could offer.

From what I read in that thread, a little clearancing is needed on the Escalade lid is needed to clear our console. Also I looked up the price on the lid new wholesale price is 1400.00 plus!!! Yikes, they had an ebay listing in that thread that had 1 left for 189.00.

So you just spun it 180 degrees and now it charges? Do you have anymore details on what you did?
