August was a very interesting month for midsize pickup sales. The Toyota Tacoma remains number one, about 50% ahead of the pack in terms of monthly sales. However, it is again the Nissan Frontier, a very old design, which has now passed the Colorado for number two! Yes, the Frontier's 9,537 units sold surpassed Chevy's 9242 units sold. But wait there's more.

Guess which trucks outsold the GMC Canyon? All of them. Yes, the Honda Ridgeline outsold the Canyon in August by a tally of 3,437 units to Canyon's 3,363. Even posting one of its best month's ever for sales didn't boost the Canyon past the "Non-truck", "Accord with a bed" Honda Ridgeline.

GM shouldn't worry. It is still selling all the trucks it can build. The folks looking on in dismay are not the GM planners. Over at Ford the midsize sales are still zero, and at last count, Ram had also totaled zero midsize trucks sold.

If they would get more of the 2.8 diesel equipped ones out in the pipeline, along with moderating the cost a little on them, it could change the sales numbers. The V6 Colorado/Canyon doesn't impress many folks. The diesel version has sparked interest, but they are not out there in number.

I think those people who are looking for a fully loaded Colorado/Canyon are deciding to go with the Silverado/Sierra because of the rebates still being offered on them. Not much wiggle room on the midsize even at the end of the model year. I know there are a lot of people who say they want a smaller truck to park easier, money speaks louder than want; especially if you can get a more fully loaded full size for the price asked of the midsize.

Nissan has been fleet dumping the Frontier for over a year now. Rental lots are packed with them and dealers are offering steep incentives. So I'm not surprised Nissan has good numbers.

GM is screwing the pooch again.. They are still hard to find on the lots in Canada. Your lucky if a big dealership has two. Then they order them fully loaded so they are expensive.

Friend wanted one and ended up with a Silverado as the build time was to long to get a Colorado.

Get one when you can they will drop the line again before you know it.

Several dealers in my area sitting on diesel Canyons and Colorado for months. Some could not get them till this spring due to GM's marketing them in what they determined where hotter markets. The dealer I know waited till this spring to get their one 2016 allocation and its been sitting since April.

GM just needs to take the Duramax 4500 off the shelf and introduce the new Duramax that will rock the sales.

The I-4 2,8 l is too weak with it´s 181 hp and 369 lb/ft

The V8 with 4,5 l will be 310 hp and 590 lb/ft IF it´s coming.

Look at the figures. Almost double.

Hope for the all new Duramax 6600 wich is said to debute the 30 Sept at Texas State Fair. GM must at least come on pair with Fords recently upgraded PS with 440 hp and 925 lb/ft . Hope for a stunning event in Texas with 450 hp and 950 lb/ft.

THAT would rock the sales.
