What Happened to the Removable Cup Holders???

Recommended Posts

Stinks the 16+ isn't removable. Though I haven't made much use of the space under there.

Lost my trailer registration (with updated license plate sticker) in there. Tore the entire garage apart looking for it... and wound up eating another $100 to buy a duplicate from the state.

Then one day, cleaning the truck, I popped the cupholder out and ... ta-da! *grumble*

On the 16's you would have to replace the whole section of the console where the cupholders are. You open the console lid then starting from there pull up on the plastic working your way to the front of the console where the power ports are located. You would need to replace that entire piece with the one from a 2014/15 to get the removable cupholder.

Agreed I miss that feature. I saw thread where a guy removed the top piece and said it was empty underneath and he fastened it back with velcro so he could remove it easily and use the space. I have not been willing to take a chance on breaking the tabs so i have not taken mine off to look underneath. Volunteers????? I was told by my dealer advisor that there was now hardware in there for the phone charger pad and you could not store anything there? Just do not know? Do all trucks have the wireless charger thing or is it just the higher packages?

I took the cupholder out of my 16 to take a peek at the setup and see what my options were.

Ended up adding a second cup holder and leaving the original in place. I don't have access to the larger storage but it does help organize the top and hides some items from site in the small storage area

I do have the charger and I don't think there is new equipment under there. Looks the same as other years

I got it on eBay. Here is the description. It has some good info in it...

You are bidding on a brand new OEM center console cupholder assembly for 2015 Chevrolet Silverado LT, LTZ & High Country. The color is black carbon metallic. This fits vehicles with the factory installed full floor console.

Please note: During the 2015 model year, GM changed the texture of the rubber around perimeter of the cupholders. This cupholder has a honeycomb pattern on the rubber area surrounding the cupholders. It fits Late build 2015 1500, 2500 & 3500 HD series. If your cupholder has a smooth rubber area, please check my other auctions. Please look at the pictures to make sure you are ordering the correct cupholder for your truck.

In order to install this in the center console with another cupholder, you will need to make modifications. Other buyers tell me that if you shave off the vertical ribs, it will fit with another cupholder.

Does yours move around at all? Or once you put it in, it fits solid?

I realize you asked Salem but I wanted to tell you that mine stays in place no problem. Occasionally I move it when pressing or pulling on it. All I did was remove the tabs. I anticipated needing felt tape to stop squeaks or hold it in place but no need.

BTW what is nice is that it fits perfectly between original cup holder and the cell phone shelves in the front. All of the rubber slots are still expose perfectly

Very cool, thanks. Will have to add this to the ever-expanding list of mods I want to do.
