Is anyone aware of what is required to install factory fog lights into a 2016 & up Base level Sierra 1500 that didn't have them from factory?

 

Will any scrap of wiring be present? The switch is not there... but can one order a switch, the lights and slap it in? Can the BCM be flashed by a dealership if required?

 

I bought an el cheapo that doesn't have fog lights and the blank inserts drive me bonkers already... so I WILL be filling them in with factory fog lights... it would just be nice to know if I can have them work like factory or not.

 

Otherwise I'll wire them up like jobbers and have a jobber switch.

Pretty sure if no factory fogs they have no wiring or a switch. While you can technically do it by getting the light + harness + switch (which is your lighting dial so not cheap) it is technically possible.

 

IMO you are better off going with an aftermarket solution which will be a whole lot cheaper but just as good quality and output. You just wire it up with a relay and a non factory switch like any ol lightbar. 2016's may have some trouble finding an aftermarket solution that fits since they are 'chinese eyes' foglights and pretty narrow. Worth looking into though before paying inflated dealership prices.

 

Very simple to add then to a 2014 or 15.

 

This video shows how to install LED fogs on a 2015 with factory fogs. The install is the same and the kit comes with a relay switch and harness if you do not have factory fogs.

It is not cost prohibitive to do it. A member tried on their 2014 Sierra, not only do you need to lights and switches you also need the entire front end harness in order to do the swap and yes also the BCM needs to be flashed which the dealer cant do at all.

 

Easier and better to go aftermarket.

Well, I will go with the 'chinese eyes' foglights still because it looks best in my opinion... chinese eyes... that's funny... add that to the list of things I'll burn in hell for finding funny, haha

 

Aftermarket switch and relay it shall be then. I just hoped to find a kit that would be less expensive and maybe more complete than buying GM stuff.

 

The 2014 & 2015 I have seen lots of jobber choices for to the other guy that posted... just search around. I just can't find anything for 16+ yet

Can't plug and play the factory switch. BCM doesn't have the circuitry and GM won't support reprogramming for that, and the underhood electrical center does not have the required printed relay circuit in it to complete the fog lamps circuit. Gotta go with an aftermarket switch, OE lamp pigtails, OE lamps and then wire it up and supply power and ground for everything.

Give Gen5DIY a call. They are awesome (sounds lame). Very nice guys, and actually want to help the customer. I called 2 times before I added fogs to my Sierra with their custom harness for the 2014-2015s. I'm sure they have something up their sleeve for the new ones.

Follow up to my own older post... the part numbers for the OEM fog lights to add them into a 2016+ GMC are:

 

23381984

and

23381983

 

Those are the lenses, bulbs, bezels, etc as 1 piece for each side. It does not include the appropriate wiring harness, plugs, relay, switch, etc... I'll figure that out at some point and update this post again... probably slowly cause this stuff ain't cheap.

i like the idea of adding these, maybe 70% for looks and 30% function,....I guess I dont care if they function, haha

Just ordered these fog lights that include the electrical harness and a separate switch.

You don't need the entire front harness. Nor do you need to have the BCM flashed. And it will cost you just as much as any aftermarket set of foglights, that's worth spending money on, would cost.  $75 per side for the LED foglights housing with bulbs made into them. And $25 for the new headlight switch w/foglights button. $11 for the relay.  $10 for wire from homedepot.  Run the wires yourself from headlight switch to the relay that you install yourself in the fuse box under the hood. Then run the wires from the relay to the foglights yourself.  $200 total for the clean made to fit factory foglights. You won't get the OEM look or styling from anything else out there for that much.  Anything cheap and universal will look like ****** unless youre a professional customizing shop that can form carbon fiber or mold fiberglass to fit the foglights slot and what ever cheap universal foglights you buy at autozone, that will inevitably go out on you one day.  Which you will spend alot more having those kind of lights custom fitted to the factory shaped foglights hole.  Or spend alot of time and effort molding the fiberglass or carbon fiber to fit yourself.  Or by the OEM stuff on rockauto.com and be done with it for $200 and a couple of hours of your time.

      I have a 2022 Silverado 1500 four-wheel-drive. The dealer ordered the 2 inch lift kit they offer and I’m waiting for it to come in and have it installed. But I noticed that the kit doesn’t come with upper control arms. Is that going to be a problem?

      so I had the factory lift gm offers installed. When I picked it up, it looked great but as soon as I went to drive it off the lot. I could tell something was wrong it felt completely different. I figured it was just a break in period. But even after a day or two, I was getting crazy bad vibration at low speeds. Took it back. They ended up putting one of the U-bolts on wrong (I have pictures if wanted) they fix that and told me the vibration was gone. I get my keys go to drive away vibrations right back. I turn right back around. this time they have a mechanic ride with me. He clearly hears  an feels a vibration, says somethings wrong so we turned around and he takes it back in. Three hours later they bring my truck back they had to remove the back blocks said there was no taper to them and it was messing up drive line. I got it back and the vibration is still there. (Now annoyed that only the front is lifted and still vibrating). I have them take the whole lift kit off. Put it back to stock. (Now remind you my truck has been down and I’m missing work for 5 days at this point) And after that Whole ordeal, I was done with the truck since I couldn’t have it how I wanted it and decided to trade it in and they made me a good deal on a 2023 5.3 LT.z71
       
      I know many have gotten this lift installed said it worked out for some reason it did not for me. I’m much happier with the new truck.

      I have a 2022 trail boss lt that has about 6100 mile on it now. Bought it brand new in may 2022 and it seems like the drivers seat leans to the left towards the door. Almost feels like Im gonna fall out of it and no matter how I adjust it it seems the same. Visually it looks like it sits level and is fine. Is it possible something is broken inside like the frame? I would assume the frame would have to be sturdy. Is there any place that sell a better bottom cushion?

      I have a 2022 Sierra SLT with passive entry locks on the front handles. Does anyone know if I can easily add passive entry locks to the rear handles? Acquiring the actual handles would not be the issue but I'm wondering if there is a harness (or whatever powers the front passive entry buttons) in the rear door to begin with. I know they come standard on Denali, so was thinking GM might just leave the wiring in the door for different trims but not include the passive handles all around. As I type this, though, I'm sure there's programming that needs to be done but figured it was worth a shot - because why not!

I had these painted to go on my truck and unfortunately they took so long I had to go a different direction before I got them back.. I have since moved up to a 3/4 diesel and am hoping these can find an owner who will appreciate the time, effort, and $$$ that went into creating them!
       
      These OEM LED Tail Lights are selling for $300 - $500 a piece online, and the cost to have these custom painted Mineral Metallic to match the Denali paint + the lens smoked (lightly, not enough to dim them when lit!) was $700 - looking to get $1,000 including shipping. Can cut a better deal if wanting to pick up in person in the Houston, TX area.
